How long does it take for the MSU physical packet to arrive after the portal has bee updated with acceptance?
@RaLaSrSa It took about 5 days for me from the time the portal updated to the time I got the physical acceptance letter.
I applied through State’s website 10/17 and got notified of acceptance via an email which directed to the portal 10/29
GPA: 3.7 (UW)
5 AP’s 1 IB
ACT: 28
Fair amount of EC’s
The email for acceptance will say “a change has been made to your account”
Posting this for reference good luck everyone!
Mine came a week after receiving my acceptance
My USPS Tracking says there’s a package schedule for tomorrow from “PSI SYSTEMS, INC EAST LANSING ,MI”? Not sure if it’s the MSU package or something else (I am not expecting anything else from East Lansing). What does your package say it’s from? MSU or PSI? Thanks.
@RaLaSrSa I’m not entirely sure since my parents got to it before I did. They got a little excited lol. But considering that it says East Lansing there’s a really good chance that it’s your acceptance letter. Let me know
Looks like some merit awards were posted yesterday too for early applicants (login to applicant portal). I am very happy my son qualified for the higher out of state merit. Makes MSU more affordable for sure.
Daughter was accepted yesterday! ?. No email saying that there was a change in her portal, she just happened to check this am. 3.87 uw gpa, 1250 SAT, 3 AP, mult honors classes, student leadership, top 5% of her class. Accepted to Lyman Briggs.
Daughter told me her merit award was on the portal. OOS with merit that makes it affordable.
My daughter was accepted to the James Madison College of MSU. I believe she received her on-line notification Oct 11 and her mailed copy the next week. She is in state , 4.01, GPA, 1280 SAT, 5 AP classes, NHS, Quiz Bowl, Business Professionals. MSU is her first choice being in the state capitol and interested in political science.
My daughter applied and all her documents in by 9/6/2019. She has a 3.96 GPA and 1130 SAT with plenty of extracurriculars. She applied via the Common App and has yet to hear anything while a number of her peers with less stats have been accepted some within a week of applying???
@dad1975 major? Could that play a role? Also, Peers at her High School?
@dad1975 That’s a pretty common complaint regarding MSU admissions. Doesn’t seem to be any rhyme or reason, and zero transparency from the school. That, and the other issues MSU has with scandal, has been more than enough to push MSU to the bottom of my kid’s list.
Do you mean they send out more admissions after UM? Just curious because UM has early action, not early decision, so they probably wouldn’t know which students are choosing which school for a couple of months, would they?
We’re pretty much dying here waiting. Daughter has 4.01 weighted GPA/3.92 UW, 1240 SAT. Homeschooled. Excellent extracurriculars, as in multiple high-profile national awards for community service. 3rd generation legacy. Applied end of August.
Should she call? Just wait? One person in this thread mentioned a recommendation letter. She has some great ones, but didn’t send any. Should she have?
Is her application complete? My OOS son got his acceptance yesterday - applied 10/28. His friend did not hear and so went on the portal and saw they did not have her transcript. There is language on the site about not resending transcripts, etc. So maybe double check that they have everything?
@jayrow MSU is such a safety school for UM that when UM releases EA decisions in December I am told that that folks who get admitted and decide to attend UM release their spots at MSU. No idea if that is true or not. MSU is not at all transparent about admissions timing which is super frustrating.
For those tracking rolling admissions, my son received his acceptance today. He received an email at 8:30 am indicating there was an update to his account. When he checked the portal, his acceptance was there. Major is Lyman Briggs. Application was complete on 10/30, although it took a very long time for the transcript to show up as received in his portal. That happened just a few days before the acceptance.
I’ve seen a number of you mention receiving a physical letter about a week after the admissions notice on-line. My daughter submitted her application October 24th and was accepted via her portal on 11/7, but she has not received an actual physical admissions letter yet. Should we have received one? We are also still waiting to hear whether she will be accepted into the honors college. Is it possible she might hear about honors college and/or merit aid in her actual admissions letter? For what it’s worth, her stats are as follows:
In State
Applied: 10/24
Accepted: 11/7
GPA U: 3.98
GPA W: 4.04
ACT: 33
SAT: 1450
National Merit Commended, NHS, 100’s of volunteer hours, etc. etc.
For me, I received the admissions letter first and then the honor college acceptance letter followed about two weeks after that. So I would assume it’s two separate letters for everyone.
