Rolling admissions in top #25 colleges

I am taking the SAT this 7th May and am from India. I want to get in top #25 colleges for Comp.Science by Fall 2016 or atleast be sure of the fact that I can join in Spring 2017,because I cannot wait so long (December) and still not be suer if I will be accepted. What are some good colleges?
I need Financial Aid (Need-Based)

Most top colleges do not admit freshmen for the spring semester, only for the fall semester, especially those that offer financial aid to international students. Ranking isn’t everything. What do you want to study? What are your current stats? Extracurriculars? What kind of college do you want to go to?

Not sure what the person above is talking about. You will not be admitted to any top 25 colleges for Fall 2016 or Spring 2017. Forget that idea, you are way too late for that, because most selective colleges require applications to be submitted in January, or maybe early February. Please take your test and think about applying for admission for Fall 2017. And you need to find non-top 25 colleges for computer science, because getting into Top 25 colleges is totally unpredictable, especially as a foreigner. Are you aware of the acceptance rates? And if you need financial aid, your chances are even smaller. You have plenty of time to do a lot of research and figure out which colleges you might be able to get into once you have your SAT score. It is possible that you can get into an American university for Fall 2106, but there is no way it will be Top 25, and even getting into a comp sci program at this late stage will be difficult, or even impossible. There is usually a list of colleges published by NACAC a that are still looking for students for Fall 2016. I think it comes out today, or very soon. But if you need money, forget it.

Are you saying that you are taking the SAT next week and would then like to apply to “top 25 colleges for comp sci” for this coming fall? You can’t. The deadlines have passed and May 1 (today) is the day that students decide on their school. I have read on CC that there is usually a list of schools after the May 1 date (today) that usually still has spots, but these will not be the “top schools” that you have in mind. In addition, I am not sure what the FA will be like at these schools. My guess is that you will not get much, if any, FA.

To the best of my knowledge spring acceptances are offered to students during the admissions cycle. For example, my friend’s son applied to the University of Delaware in September of 2015 for the fall of 2016. He was offered a spring 2017 acceptance. There are students who applied to Northeastern for the fall of 2016 and were accepted for the spring of 2017.

You missed the application cycle. You can look for the list of schools that still has spots after today, or you can reapply in August for the fall of 2017.

Why can’t you wait?

uh that’s because, that’ll mean dropping a year and sitting home and still be unsure whether I’ll be accepted.

@tonystarkofwinterfell I want to study Computer sci., this’ll be my first SAT but on prep tests I score in the range of 1480-1530 ,

Extracurriculars- National level quizzer , debator and orator. I have distinctions in Music and Art, I have written 2 science papers (published), I have also written a novel (published online) , I was the finalist of Duke TIP, andin English Olympiads I have got a national rank of #27, I have won couple of MUNs and a lot of quizzes(state/city level).

I want to go to a college that equips me with everything to face what life has to offer (not being philo.) Uhm, also which gets me a good job in some Silicon Valley company.

I preferably want to get into an Ivy League and I am ready to wait for it, but only when they confirm me acceptance , so that I can wait care-free. I hope you get my dilemma.

@Halliday,
I hate to burst your bubble, but there is absolutely no chance you will be admitted to an Ivy League school, or for that matter any other top 25 school, for this fall. Those classes were filled months ago. Your best bet would be to spend the next year doing your research on schools and continuing to build your resume and to apply this fall for admission in September 2017.

I would strongly recommend you look beyond the Ivy League and comparable schools. These schools are extremely competitive and being an international student looking for financial aid puts you at an additional disadvantage. There are a lot of strong CS programs outside these top ranked schools. Good luck with your search. I hope I haven’t discouraged you but I wanted to make sure you don’t proceed on the basis of unrealistic expectations.

Your EC’s don’t matter. You are too late for selective schools. The only schools that will be available now are less selective schools that still have slots to fill and they are unlikely to offer financial aid.

If you take your SAT’s now, you can apply for admission in Fall 2017. The new application will become available in August.

At this point, you need to wait until next March for an answer, unless you do early decision to one school, in which case you will know by December if you will be admitted the following fall.

Top schools here do not work on rolling admissions. By top, I mean top 500 or so…

August 2016?

No Halliday. Aug 2017. These schools have well-defined schedules – deadlines etc. I’m sure top unis in India have them too. The train has left the station as far as Aug/Sep 2016 goes.

Like poster #8 said, the only schools that are accepting applicants now are lower tiered ones and certainly not ones that will grant much if any financial aid for international applicants.

@Halliday Rose Hulman has rolling admissions and it is a top school for STEM although I just checked their site and their cut off for fall has passed.

According to this, there is no rolling admissions but two rounds. The deadlines have passed for RH and fin aid is tight. http://www.rose-hulman.edu/admissions-financial-aid/international-students.aspx

Seems like waiting is the only option.

The app deadline was Feb 1 at Rose Hulman. @Halliday , use your year to plan out which colleges you might be able to get into for Fall 2017. Get a job, volunteer, retake tests if you need to. You have left things too late for the upcoming academic year.

Is this post for real?

Lol, yes

Uhm how is Illinois Institute of Technology? for CS

Lol! This thread was surreal!! I almost don’t believe it. But, thanks to the OP for making me feel an awful lot better about missing deadlines on stuff during my son’s admissions cycle. Its not often that one feels good about ones time management skills on this forum. This was one such time. Good to know that not everybody is superhuman on CC.
