Rolling Admissions Post M10: Advice on Schools?

My child didn't get the best news this weekend, and we are looking to cast a wider net as the reality of going to our local public school in the fall is not sitting well with anyone in our family! So...here we go for one more effort...

Does anyone have any suggestions for great schools still accepting apps on a rolling basis? Some that come to mind are Hidden Gems like Webb (CA) and St. Andrews. Any others? Recommendations for schools in New England are appreciated as well.

.

SSAT (or perhaps TABS?) puts together a list of SCCA schools (Schools Currently Considering Applicants) — though it may come out after A10.

But you could check here even now:

Best of luck.

I think I’m going to be in the same boat and started our search last night. Still waiting on 3 of 4 school. I’ve found quite a few that are open to admissions after the typical deadlines. It seems financial is the big factor. Most schools give it all away with the initial round. And they have a wait list.

I just checked the list, it looks like a lot of schools are on there that probably aren’t still open to applications. Unless they need more full pay students?

St. Andrews (DE) doesn’t have rolling admissions. Maybe another St. Andrews does…? Christchurch School (VA) does have rolling admissions. I applied and was accepted and really liked it. Definitely worth a look.

There will be a new list created for this year. This will be a list of schools that may or may not have rolling admissions. I don’t think it gets posted until mid-April or early May. Schools that have rolling admissions can be found by searching the Boarding School Review site.

Good luck!

Many Hidden Gems save a spot or two for late admissions and do not advertise on the SSAT website as having an opening. We went through this several years ago and found that Hidden Gems are very interested in full pay great applicants. We applied in May. Called 4 schools, went and visited, applied to 2 and had decisions within a week. We ended up with 2 great choices and ended up having an amazing experience. My advice is to wait until after April 10th and then pick up the phone and start calling. Everything happens for a reason.

Try Wyoming Seminary.

As @mrnephew said, Wyoming Seminary has one of the best rolling admission and financial aid programs I of which I have ever heard. I am currently a sophomore at Sem, and I was accepted and my family received a large amount of financial aid in July! My interview was completed after I had been admitted and I did not take the SSAT until I was already at school for two weeks!

Take a look at Kimball Union Academy in Meriden at New Hampshire. My son and I visited 11 top New England boarding schools and my son found the best fit at this hidden gem! I know in years past they did have a rolling admissions policy. The admossions office was extremely helpful and very friendly. The campus is absolutely beautiful! Good luck! We are still not sure if we will be able to attend due to financial aid issues but we were sold on it!

If you are interested in the boarding schools in California, try Dunn School. www.dunnschool.org

It is not a top-notch school but a hidden gem. They don’t officially say it has a rolling admission policy but when I contacted them a few years ago, they gave me an impression that at times they do accept late applications. It is a good school, located in the beautiful Los Olivos area and has a very close-knit community. Admission people were very kind and the headmaster was also very open. Although we didn’t end up applying, we came to believe it was a very good school.

Good luck finding a school!
