I vaguely remember hearing that CALS - or maybe it was all state-supported schools - delivers admissions decisions in the RD round on a rolling basis; as soon as they decide you're in, they send you your package. Is that true?

OK this is all getting more distant as time goes on . D is now a Jr.in ILR so it has been a few years. ILR (definitely) and CALS and Hotel (are the other 2- I think) will start "rolling" out decisions in mid February. It's more like a spurt and not a roll as very few kids got the decision in February/March. Most kids found out with the rest of the college decisions on April 1st. I think it was extremely frustrating for the kids applying to the rolling schools, cause most did not hear anything until 4/1. It could have caused additional stress as they were all running to check the mail everyday from 2/20 on.
My d was very lucky, she did get admitted in February - but only received the letter. The whole Acceptance package came in April.
It seemed that less kids got notified early last year than when my d was admitted 2 years ago, so Cornell may be notifying less kids via this "rolling process"
So I am going to suggest, as you know the process exists -- don't be too keyed into dates. Most kids get their notification 4/1- Good luck.

do these schools do rolling admissions in the ED round?

I don't think so-

Oh god... I don't think I'll be able to handle freaking out at 1 PM six days a week for one and a half months. And I just know it's going to happen. I freak out when I expect anything.

I'll just have to keep myself insanely busy. Or just get into my early school. :)

And no, rolling would only be for RD. It wouldn't make as much sense to decide an applicant WILL come to Cornell before reviewing all the other candidates. RD is different because it's only an offer of admission, not necessarily a guarantee.

theo- don't freak out about it. Actually cc was kinda helpful in that regard because as you saw from the posts last year, almost no one heard before 4/1. The college confidential community sort of confirmed this- and if someone does find out early, you'll know that too based on their posting. Not getting an acceptance prior to 4/1, does not mean you wouldn't ultimately get accepted.
My gut feeling is that less and less kids will be hearing early as there seem to be more applications to Cornell (maybe due to the common application) and the Admissions guys do not have enough time to review the applications to make decisions in Feb/March. Now if you happen to be the Native American from Idaho who is a star football player, you may get an early nod into Cornell, but if you are just "regular folk" I wouldn't count on hearing anything before 4/1, even if your college (CALS?) does rolling notifications. Enjoy the rest of the summer- and enjoy Senior Year!!

I referred to freaking out cause I seriously can't stand anticipation, hehe. I check the mail compulsively when I expect my report card, or even college apps. It's crazy. I'm crazy.
