My very very first top number one choice, University of Missouri-Columbia, has a rolling admissions process.

The other colleges I'm applying to have deadlines around or shortly after the first of January.

I don't intend to apply much earlier than the first of January, because I have some independent study courses I want to finalize so I can send in my new grade on my GPA.

Should I apply to Mizzou at the same time - around January? They accept til May, but of course I'm not waiting that long. Or is it risky? They accept until they have no more spaces...

Rant: I HATE the Mizzou application process. No recs, no essay, rolling admissions. Lame.

Generally speaking, it's best to apply as early as possible for rolling admissions, particularly if it's far and away your first choice. After all, if you are admitted, that may save you a lot of work in Dec when you'd have to prepare the Jan deadline apps.

Or is your current transcript a little weak and you're afraid you won't be admitted to MO without the add'l info?

I'd send it in now, unless you DESPERATELY need a GPA boost. With no essays and no recs, it shouldn't take too long.

On a different note, one of my best friends is applying to Mizzou. :) It's her second choice, after Northwestern. Intending journalism as a major as well (making the assumption based on your username ;)).

Yeah, my GPA is a little weak and I haven't even taken the SAT yet. I have some grades I need to make up through independent study on my transcript, and I'll be done with those by January. That's why I'm applying at that time... or at least planning on it so far.

I'm planning on majoring in journalism, and i know that's big at Mizzou... I dont know much about rolling admissions, so I'm pretty terrifed that by the time I apply, it'll be too late. They just started accepting in September, so not too much time has past by, but by January....

You can always contact UM and ask when the class was filled last year.

I seriously doubt the class was filled by January. But just to ease your mind, find out for sure.

The previous year UM was my daughter's safety. She was accepted and they were still after her to commit to the school in April (this was for fall, '05 matriculation).
