I have done a forum search and came up with a few schools. I am interested in schools that have rolling admissions for music mostly south, west coast and midwest. Violin performance

I have
Crane?
IU
Colorado?
Michigan?

thanks

Crane is in the Northeast. I beleive SUNY Fredonia also in the Northeast also might have rolling admissions.

If you’re including the northeast, Ithaca also has rolling admissions, and I believe Hartt does as well (or at least, if you do the December audition, you’ll know by New Year’s).

FWIW, while Michigan indeed has “rolling” admissions, and while it is “possible” to get an early admission if you audition really early, it is also possible to end up waiting until well into April for a decision. I suspect the other programs will be like that as well.

Not a rolling admission, but Oberlin offers an early review. The paperwork is due early, the audition is the first week in December and you can get an acceptance or a rejection in 2-3 weeks, or you could be deferred into the regular admission pool.

SUNY Fredonia has rolling admissions for the academic majors but not for music. They do offer alternate locations within NY State(as does Crane), but if you want to be considered for merit aid (music) you need to pay close attention to the audition date you select as if you choose the last date, you will not be in the scholarship-pool. For a violin major though, I would not even consider Fredonia and would think twice about Crane unless you are an in-state resident and looking for a degree in Music Ed. Also, know that IU requires you to be really pro-active in your choice of a studio, which could require several trip to the school for sample lessons…

My D is a viola performance major at the University of Colorado at Boulder. She is extremely happy there.

CU does not have rolling admissions. They did several years ago, but it really didn’t apply to College of Music applicants. CU now has both early action and regular decision admission to the university.

The College of Music then requires a separate application with letters of recommendation, rep lists, resumes, an essay and an audition. BME also requires an interview. Some disciplines require a prescreen. I know flute is due December 1.

Auditions are typically in February. When you apply as a performance major, you must be accepted by both the university and then the College of Music. If you apply early action and you’re accepted by the university, you’ll be admitted into the College of Arts and Sciences. If you are later accepted into the College of Music (after your audition), CU makes the appropriate change to your status.

I expect this is fairly typically for most large university programs where you must be accepted to both the university and to the College or School of Music.

PM me if you have a specific question about CU . . . and yes, there are many wonderful music schools west of Ohio.
