Just have a quick question about rolling admissions schools.

I have a low GPA (2.89) and my SAT is 1790. There are a few rolling admissions schools I want to apply to that start accepting applications in August or September.

I feel like if I apply early I might have a better chance at admission since it's early in the admissions season, they still have a lot of space to fill, and it's supposedly "easier" to get in. But what if I do well the first semester of my senior year? It'll raise my GPA and show an even bigger upward trend than I already have. Or what if my SAT goes up when I retake it in October? Then I'd fit the profile of accepted students better.

Sorry if this sounds silly but I don't know what to do. :/

Maybe you could apply into “easier” schools with your current grade, and more “difficult” schools in your senior year and after you’ve taken the SAT (if you improve)…just a thought!!

Apply to the schools that you want to. Most decisions won’t come out immediately anyway, even if the school has rolling admissions. Once you take the SAT again, send it in with your first semester transcript and improve your chances of getting in. Don’t let anything stop you from applying to a school.

Yes, it is true that some rolling admissions schools are more lenient with stats admissions when you apply very early.

As the admissions season continues into fall and winter, some rolling admissions schools start tightening up their admissions standards.

If the rolling admissions school still thinks that your stats are too low and it’s early in the admissions season, they will generally defer you until later in the year and ask you to send mid-year updates – that could include higher scores and higher GPA.

That happened to a student last year. Her stats were still a bit low, so a Florida school asked her to resubmit her GPA and test scores after Dec. She got better scores and the school admitted her.

Well thanks everyone! This really helps.
