Rolling Decisions?

Hey,

On the admissions requirement table on Cornell's website it lists that ILR sends out "rolling decisions" starting February. Is this true? Can anyone verify please? Thank you :).

I'd like to know this year's timetable as well. On another thread the mother of a current ILR student said that no one has been notified before April 1st in the past three years. True?

Hi- I am the mom that you are referring to-
If memory serves me correct- I do not remember any regular college confidential ILR poster who received notice before 4/1-BUT posters were aware of classmates who may have gotten a decision in late Feb/ March. Each year (and my d is a Junior in ILR) there seems to be less kids who hear before 4/1. Whether it is because they are getting more applicants, only notifying the "must have kids" ( i.e.american Indian from Idaho), or they did have a "rookie" admissions person last year-- there really wasn't too much happening prior to 4/1 at least in ILR.
As Hotel and CALS also has rolling decision starting mid February, you will know when decisions are sent out. Kids will be notified and the info will be posted on these boards. And the decisions were not really rolling- it seemed more like a spurt. Remember the 3 schools handle their admissions separately so notifications were sent out on different days.
AN EXAMPLE MIGHT BE-- ILR sends out notices 2/18, Hotel 2/23, CALS 2/25. Then nothing was send out for another few weeks. It appeared that decisions were continuously being sent out but in reality each school sent out the decisions on different dates.
I think the best attitude you can have is not to think about it too much- as many many acceptances are made known on 4/1 and not before.
Good luck to all- Enjoy the rest of your senior year and try not to stress!!

Ahh ok. So I guess I should not get my hopes up for a decision (hopefully a really good one pre 4/1 :()

Marny1> I saw from a previous post that your daughter heard in February. Can you recall when did she send in her application? I am kind of worried because I sent mine in January 1st which might affect my chances negatively.

Her H.S.'s policy was that ALL applications had to be sent and processed by December 1st. So I am pretty sure her Cornell application was completed by Thanksgiving.

Oh wow thats really early heh. Really hoping sending it Jan 1st doesn't affect chances by a whole lot.

I'm curious, i wantcolly, whether everyone's application status is the same. What does yours say at the moment?

isnt feb. early for rolling decisions at cornell? i thought earliest was march?

I just found out about the rolling decisions policy yesterday (I applied to CALS) and am completely shocked. Does any one know if we are notified by email and told to check our online accounts? Or do we just wait for the mail?

what are the dates of the whole rolling decision thing?

It just said "starting February" and nothing else.

wow...i am shocked that there is rolling decision for cals (which is wat i did)... so basically i pretty much rejected since i applied late dec...

Actually its resembles the "likely letter" process more than rolling decisions. I actually called them up (ILR admissions) and they stressed that the time they receive your app has nothing to do with admissions. I would guess that they just send it to the most desirable candidates.

Thanks for answering, iwantcolly. I don't follow what they told you. What is it that they send to the most desirable candidates? An earlier decision than to the rest of the pool?

I hate to fuel this discussion, because the rolling decision process always creates a bunch of unneeded anxiety- but
When my d got accepted to ILR in 2004, she received her ACCEPTANCE letter in mid February. It was not a "likely letter". In the past, the first wave of acceptances were mid to late February (approx. Feb.17th-25) and then maybe a 2nd wave a few weeks later in early/mid March.
I will CONTINUOUSLY stress, most of you will not hear from the Admissions Office until April 1st. So if you are applying to a "rolling decision" school, do not fret too much if you do not get your acceptance in Feb/March. There are LOTS of acceptances on 4/1. Good luck!!

I hear you marny1, but it's so hard to wait. ILR applicants, is this what your application status says? "Application Status unavailable until early February." I'd really like to know if everyone's is the same.

I think the Status is the same for everyone. They're sorting out everyone's application right now. Busy busy.
