So I'm an incoming freshman and I'm being housed at Bingham. My freshman counselor had my suite last year and she just informed my roommate and I that our room is tiny! I'm okay with that, I mean it is just a room, but my roommate is a little upset. Does anybody have creative ideas on how to maximize space? I'm thinking bunk beds...I don't mind being on top.

BINGHAM!!! I was in Bingham last year! Are you in Calhoun or Trumbull?

Your suitemate will most likely just have to live with it. It is very likely that your room is still bigger than the doubles in LW and Vandy. Also, she might not be spending all her time in there. I tried not to be in my room all that much during the day - 4th floor, smh. I’m glad you’re taking it well though! :)

Trumbull :)

hmm it is, that’s definiteley a positive, I knew it could be worse lol. Did you like Bingham? I’ve heard mixed opinions on it…

Anyone ever seen the A entry 5th floor Bingham 3 room triples? Looks to be an unusual arrangement when all the other Bingham suites are mostly 6’s and 7’s. Some old plans on Facebook show long corridors on the 5th floor connecting entryways but although there are renovation plans for floors 1-4, I only saw the 1969 plans for floor 5. It looks like the building facade must step in at the 5th floor so that double looks mighty small but should have a nice view :).

^ Yeah, apparently our room is so tiny that we can’t even fit two beds in it, so bunk beds are going to a be a must…

Hey! Im in Bingham too… And Trumbull… Do we know each other? lol

I loved Bingham. I was on the 4th floor which was a hike, and because I was on the 4th floor my wall was at an angle, which made configurations a little awkward. But the suite itself was great! Pretty big. Most Bingham rooms are big and all the suites I saw in the tower were really big. Maybe the rooms were a little small (could fit two beds and a desk and that’s it) but the common rooms were HUGE. Plus you have the elevator in the tower. I never actually saw an Entryway D room so it might be there. But honestly, it should be fine. Chances are your common room is big (…)

I didn’t know that Calhoun was rooming freshmen on the 5th floor of A. So odd. Last year, it was annex housing. Triples must SUCK AND 5th floor. Boy… But, again, it’ll be bearable. Good thing is that at least you can take the elevator to the 5th floor and just walk over to A, which might be better than going up 5 flights of stairs.

^ I’m actually on the 7th floor :), and yeah the elevator is definitely a good thing. Idk about how big the common room is, but our freshman counselor said there’s no way we can go without bunk beds, and the desks we might as well forget about putting in the suite, they’re going to have to go in the common room. Eh, at least the food’s good, right? And I’m Trumbull, not Calhoun.

thatguy100, yes hahahahaha

I don’t know that a “triple must suck” but it will be a different experience than a 6 person suite that draws a lot of traffic flow. You may get more people dropping by passing from entryway to entryway on the 5th floor but I was hoping for a comment from someone who lived in that type of room. My Welch room years ago was an 8 person suite with two in-suite bathrooms not attended to by custodial staff. No one thought to come up with a cleaning schedule early on and it probably wouldn’t have worked later in the year. Now those bathrooms “sucked”.

whooo! trumbullian here! see all of yall in bingham in august! :)

My son was in bingham tower last year and his room was very small. although they had two beds in there, there was maybe a foot between them to squeeze your way down the room. The beds were up on risers and the bureaus and boxes of storage went under the beds.

Putting the desks in the common room is a great way to free up space in the room.

Another tip: get some of those fabric hanging pockets and shoe racks so you can stow stuff in them and hang them under the bed or off the sides.

And remember this! you’re actually probably not going to be spending a whole lot of time in your room except for sleeping and maybe some studying.

Bingham is great because you are right over the laundry room and the chaplain’s office where they have free ice cream 24/7 and free food other times.

stringkeymonkey: Thank you! That’s great advice, I can’t believe I didn’t think of the fabric shoe racks! Yeah, my roommate and I were told by the freshman counselor that we were definitely going to have to put our desks in the common room. I guess another question would be, how big are the common rooms?
