Room and Board

Hey guys,

Can someone tell me if meal plans are included in room and board? If not, what type of expense does meal fall in on the UCLA budget chart? The categories are: Fees, Books/Supplies, Room and Board, Transportation, Personal, Health Insurance. Thanks alot!

Mmm mmm, food is included. All you can eat gourmet food. UCLA does a great job hydrating/nutriating you.

personal is highly subjective, and books is overvalued. i didnt even buy from half or discount used books, i bought all new from ucla store, and i didnt get anywhere near 1500. if you buy smart, used, half, you might not even spend a third of that.

I've probably only used like 400 dollars on books this entire year but I sold them online for the same price if not more on amazon or half. Try and buy your books online or on bruinwalk they're much cheaper than the ucla store.

thanks, also, if i live on campus, do i still have to pay transportation?

no , unless you're planning to take cabs/buses.

AHJRHAHRHAHRHAHR!!!

spugspug

ok thanks (10 char)

WHOA!!!! why did you just do that??? totally sabotaging my thread!!!

Who would make you pay for transportation that it completely optional?
Unless they have public transportation from dorms to class which is highly unreasonable.

true...........

the UCLA budget chart is NOT a chart of actual fees- just guidelines. everyone's experiences vary.
on transportation, i'll have spent about $300 on airfare going home a few times. but not everyone does that. getting around here is cheap- 25 cents to santa monica, etc. all depends where you go, how, and how often.
food is part of room and board- room = housing, board = food. this depends on your room type/meal plan.
every figure they give is just a rough estimate/average, nothing specific. mainly meant as a guideline for your parents. it's generally higher than most students actually spend overall, because who wants to be told to only budget, say, $18k and then spend $2k more? so they estimate a bit over to be on the safe side.

i see...thanks

also are there going to be any scholarship or grant opportunities for freshman OOS students? cuz im tryin to think where can i get the scholarships next year...
