So I've been checking my son's Tulane email as he has no internet access at camp. A kid emailed him the day the assignments came out to say he was my son's roommate and gave his contact info etc.

I wrote back and told him my son can't access his Tulane email, but gave his cell number so they could text each other.

Today I checked the Tulane email and a DIFFERENT kid says he's my son's roommate and when I checked the housing site, the room and roommate had changed.

This was all random... and the new room is just one number different...should I assume the first kid asked for an assignment change? Seems odd since it was all random. I haven't talked to my son so I don't know if they communicated at all.

Just seems odd.

Not to play with words too much, I would say it is somewhat unusual but not odd. I mean it happens not very often, but when it does there is some reasonable underlying explanation, since they don’t juggle these things for fun. Could have been human error in assigning rooms to begin with, or a change in one of the student’s needs or strong preferences that made a difference, or an originally overlooked non-random roommate request, or… Lots of possible reasons.

So, roommate #1 had a different dorm as his first choice. Same with the roommate of roommate #2. So they switched the kids around to give everyone his first choice.

All is good. It was just strange to find out from the kid and not from the housing department.

That’s true, they should have informed your son of the change right away. Not that he would have seen it in his case, lol.
