August 30, 2006

Welcome to Warren College Residential Life! We look forward to seeing you soon. Below is important information regarding your housing as well as move in dates and times for new students.

ROOM ASSIGNMENT INFORMATION:
You will be able to view your mailing address, room assignment, and roommate/suitemates/apartment mates information at the following web address: http://hds.ucsd.edu/housing/fallroomassign.html starting August 31st. You will need your PID and PAC to access your assignment information. Please check it frequently, as the site will be updated should there be cancellations or new assignments to your apartment. Should you have technical difficulties, please email ucsdhousing@ucsd.edu or call the Warren Residential Life Office at 858-534-4581.

MOVE IN INFORMATION:
There will be a drive through check-in on Saturday and Sunday, September 16th and 17th between the hours of 8:30 am – 3:30 pm (Sunday will begin at 9:00 am) . We like to encourage new freshpersons to arrive Saturday, September 16th, as this day has been set aside for first-year students only, and will allow our staff to devote special attention to your arrival. We look forward to seeing you soon!

Please have a picture ID ready as your car approaches the first drive up station in the Justice Lane cul-de-sac in order to pick up your key and move-in packet. Velvet Touch Move-In Crew (student volunteers) will be available to assist moving your belongings. Please have at least 2 persons with each car (a licensed driver with the car at all times, and someone to go with your belongings to your room). Please be patient as there may be long lines at times.

There will be no check-ins between 3:30 – 4:30 pm, however, you will be able to pick up your keys at the Warren Student Activities Center between the hours of 4:30 pm – 10:00 pm. (Saturday and Sunday). There will NOT be any laundry carts available for check-out, therefore we highly suggest you bring a dolly/hand truck to transport your belongings from the parking lots to your apartment if you arrive at a time when our move in crew is not available.

If you plan to arrive during the week, you must pick up your key at the Residential Life Office between the hours of 9:00 am – 5:00 pm. You must pick up your key no later than 4:00 p.m. on the first day of classes (Thursday, September 21st) or you will forfeit your space. Please contact us in writing (or by email at warrenreslife@ucsd.edu) to indicate if you will be arriving late.

There are a wide variety of activities planned for Welcome Week. Plan to come early and participate in the fun! Check out the events, calendar and FAQ section of our website for more information: http://warren.ucsd.edu

See You Soon!

The Warren Residential Life Staff

I say 7 am tomorrow. From experience of trying to register for classes.

While I doubt it will be, I'd like to hope its midnight tonight, just to get this done with. It's pretty much the last step left before move-in...

did anybody get an e-mail from erc residential? i didn't get anything :

Maybe Warren is just better.

Definitely.

har har...10 characters

The Truth is no laughing matter ;)

wayyytooworried aren't you going to erc too? lOL

I wonder if the Housing Assignments will be available at exactly 12:00 AM on Thursday, or if we have to wait until 7 Am like we did for the WebReg **** and other things. Hmmm.......

I hope it is at 12:00A.M.!!!

I'm Warren, Idyll ;)

I doubt it'll be 12 AM. More like 12 PM.

Aw man...I hope not.
I have no patience for this kinda stuff.

12 AM!!! 7 AM if it were a WebReg thing, but it's not connected with WebReg.

is it just me or does it seem like every other UC received their housing info already? I mean if you look at the UCLA forum, their housing was up way before us which isn't really fair because they don't start their quarter until the 28th AND they have more students then us.

I think it has to do with UCSD doing the roommate selection by hand, while UCLA probably uses computers.

I don't think SD does the selection by hand. At least not fully by hand. They might check for a few of the smaller fill-in things, but thats about it, if that even (they could have some sort of pairing of people who have the same words in their housing app).

I think the issues are probably that SD has far more freshmen this year than they are generally used to (new spaces in rooms, students being sorted to buildings other than their college, etc), combined with SD having to deal with 6 colleges to sort separately compared to LA just being a bunch of buildings.

Or it could be that UCSD is lazy.

I think it is by hand. I got a (personal!) email from them a few weeks ago, because I requested to NOT be put with ANYONE from my high school. They said that because they don't know what people come from what high school, they asked me to provide hometown or specific people's names. So I just responded back with NOT being roomed with anyone from Fullerton, Brea, La Habra, or La Mirada; also provided some names of people I really don't want to room with.

So yea. I'd say the "tardiness" of roommate information is due to (1) hand selection, (2) the boom in # of freshman, (3) having trouble of knowing where to put all of us!

Naw, I doubt UCSD is being lazy. :) Give them credit; the crew there is probably working their butts off to serve our needs.

It's partially hand-selected... and they like to have their fun, too.

Like my freshman year, each suite had two people with the same first names... or two pairs of people with the same first names that both live on the same floor. or people with the same # of syllables in their last name.
