Room Assignment

My daughter and her roommate just got assigned to lowrise 6. Everything we heard bout it is negative. Does anybody have any info to share?

I wouldn’t really worry about this. Each student will have his/her own experience. If she goes in with a positive attitude, she will be fine anywhere she is assigned IMHO. It’s kind of like a teacher who kids groan about and say “oh too bad you got that teacher, he’s terrible”. Not all kids have the same experience with that teacher. Some will really like him and flourish under his teaching. You get the idea.

My D was in highrise 5, which many regarded as the only dorm worse than the lowrises, in a double made into a triple her freshman year. She survived and loved Cornell.

You can try to get a new room assignment by calling the housing office, but most dorm rooms are old.

It’s all about the people you meet, not so much the quality of the housing.

I think she would prefer a newer building but it turns out she loves her roommates and is very excited to go.

I love the generic advice on this thread. Anyway, LR6 isn’t terrible all said and done.

I lived in Low Rise 6 my freshman year and loved it! I can’t imagine that I could have had a better experience in one of the newer dorms. The low rises have a great design for forming friendships with your suitemates. You have a huge main lounge and a suite lounge (both are really nice too). You are also right next to RPCC for dining hall swipes, late night snacks, and mail pickup. You really appreciate the short walk in the winter.

I spent hours researching the Low Rises when I received my room assignment and was so disappointed by all the negative posts. In hindsight, I’m sorry I spent so much time dwelling on the fact that the building is older. The inside is not run down and my room was great.

@realworld what is the suite like?
