Hello, I'm an incoming first year who will be living in a single in court hall (though from what i hear about the similarity of the buildings these could also apply to Mews?). I was wondering if anybody can answer these questions:
1. Do you get a significant boost in floor space by lofting your bed?
2. Anyone know how sound-proof the walls are at Court? I play electric guitar as a hobby and even though I'd gladly play through headphones, I don't want to disturb my suitemates with string noise (unless of course they enjoy my playing).
3. Do they really come down on you for hanging things on the walls with adhesives (or sometimes small tacks)? It would be nice to put a calendar up.
4. are there any restrictions on irons in the rooms? My DHW host had one with a little fold away ironing board (a setup i intend to mimic), but i'd like to know since it's really not too far from a handheld hotplate or heater.
Much thanks in advance

Sort of… you can put your desk under the bed and have those extra 1x1.5meters in your room

I don’t know

I thought adhesives were the only thing that we are allowed to use to hang posters/calendars on the walls.

Don’t think so, but not 100% positive. One thing I know for sure is that I wouldn’t be spending any time ironing my clothes :D

Thanks for the response, though I’m sure a fellow Connectican would appreciate the value of looking sharp ;)

As for #3, I would suggest using blue painters tape. The paint is so easy to peel off and it’s not worth it to have to pay the charges at the end of the year. I learned this from experience.

For #2, I’m pretty sure there are soundproof practice rooms around the campus.

Ooh I gotta find me one of those. I was thinking more along the lines of just picking up and playing whenever I felt like but if they have instrument storage I could consider it.
