Yes we got a room in Paty and are happy with location - close to engineering. Hoping to upgrade to honors, for study purposes if nothing else. “It’s all an experience.”

^^^

Just keep checking. It seems like everyday now, some honors beds open.

Got an e-mail from my son’s suite mate today, and he offered this good news to those incoming students seeking housing for the fall.

Housing has opened spots in the Highlands, which is an on campus apartment complex. Housing scholarships do cover this building, so you may see some upperclassmen decide to move.

This originally was not an option for those upperclassmen, but the demand for on campus apartments, as well as the timing of the construction schedule allowed for these openings. Spaces will be available on a first come, first serve basis, and students will need to let housing know by May 18 at 5 p.m. if they are interested in living there.

hey socal…My son is in Burke (trad style dorms) right now. If you decide to stay in Paty maybe your son can get his roommate to do a room swap with my son. He is an honors bio student and lives in so cal. Right now we are looking at the trad dorms not suites but it would be great to room with someone from CC. I looked again today still only rooms in Paty are available.

MikeWozowski-
Yes, I am new. I stumbled upon this forum just browsing around the internet. I’m from in state (Alabama). I’ve gotten a lot more information here about housing than anywhere else so far…

mom2collegekids-
Yes, I usually log in around 4 PM central. Unfortunately the time when rooms did open up around 6 yesterday I was working on my final projects… Ergh.

merrisara…

I hope you have some luck! Can someone in your family also be checking?

Just checked in today. No rooms available for boys.

Will The Highlands only be open to upperclassmen or incoming freshmen?

Is it more likely upperclassmen will move there and open previously occupied rooms, or will incoming freshmen who were not able to get rooms get placed there?

You said it’s on campus? Is it walking distance to classes, or at least on the CrimsonRide route?

bassettmomma - told S your message, if nothing opens in honors for them, it sounds like a good idea. When are you Bama Bound? (6/16-17) Is he doing AA? (Y)

Seeing a lot of kids who are honors but did not get honors housing.

Hopefully, housing will waive the rule of no honors housing if not initially honors housing for these kids.

They may have to take nonhonors housing for freshman year, but it would be nice if they got the option to move into honors housing as upperclassmen.

I’m assuming upperclassmen pick rooms before incoming freshmen. Right?

*
They may have to take nonhonors housing for freshman year, but it would be nice if they got the option to move into honors housing as upperclassmen.*

I don’t think Bama would do that. That would just further complicate this problem next year for incoming freshmen. They would have too many upper classmen wanting to be in honors and there would be even fewer rooms available for incoming freshmen.

I think those who want to be in honors just need to keep looking online and perhaps ask family members to help, too.

Good point, m2ck. You’d have both returning upperclassmen and incoming freshmen trying for the same amount of honors rooms. Perhaps more communities would become all honors.

What super suites are not honors?

Is Riverside North mixed non/honors this year?

Maybe committing the whole Riverside complex to only honors would help some.

He is going to honors one session on may 27 and he is doing AA! We should try to get together over the summer. We live in Fullerton. Where are you?

ridgecrest south south is non honors

riverside north is mixed - honors and non-honors

bassettmom - we’re in Mission Viejo – don’t see a problem in finding a something convenient.

FWIW, it looks as though Housing is trying a bit harder to move upperclassmen out of the honors dorms:

Dear Student,

I am excited to announce that the Highlands will be available as a housing option for 2010/2011. Although we were not initially able to offer the Highlands during online room selection, the continued demand for apartment-style on-campus housing, and the timing of future campus construction projects, will allow us to offer the Highlands for this coming academic year.

The Highlands offers the amenities of a full apartment, with three private bedrooms, a full kitchen, and 2 ½ baths, with all the convenience of living on campus. At this time, there are many completely empty apartments, so we can try to honor roommate requests, as long as we hear from all students involved. We cannot, however, accommodate requests for specific apartments.

All Highlands apartments will be for three residents this fall, unless four students specifically request to live together in an apartment, which will mean that the larger bedroom is treated as a double. The projected rate for single occupancy bedrooms will be $3750.00/semester.

If you wish to change your assignment to the Highlands for this upcoming year, please contact Tonya Nail by e-mail only at tnail@sa.ua.edu. Spaces will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. If interested, please contact Ms. Nail by 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 18.

Montegut, all housing is chosen based on credit hours. The more you have, the earlier you pick. (Again, that’s why AP credit and dual enrollment are great – those kids get to select on the first or second day). So, you hope you have a friend with lots of credit, so he or she can select the housing you desire.

It will take a few days for some movement for the upperclassmen. Remember, the students did not receive word about the Highlands until late Friday. They need to contact their roommates and find out if they want to relocate. Then, they send that e-mail to housing by May 18.

I would look for more openings in housing in the next week or so.

Oh good!

Tonya was one of the people I spoke with last week. Hopefully, she and her boss were bombarded with phone calls about getting more upperclassmen to move out of honors housing either in The Bluffs or elsewhere.

This will open rooms up.

I would call Tonya and ask when she thinks the paperwork will get done so that the honors beds will open. IF she wants people to tell her by May 18th (my 25th wedding anniversary! LOL), will they have honors beds open by Friday? or later?

Reading all of your posts has kept me informed…thank you all for being so involved! Older daughter has gotten the email from housing about moving out of Honors housing into the apartments. Word is that they were pretty run down. The girls she lives with are trying to figure out if they’ve been updated…does anyone know if they were? Still trying to secure an honors room for incoming freshman son, but at this point the server for myBama is down. At last check there were no rooms at all available. Starting to think that we should be happy with Paty…at least he won’t be sleeping on the sidewalk!

Will The Highlands be all honors?

Why was it not available before?

Will The Highlands be less expensive than Ridgecrest/Riverside/Lakeside?

I’m just being nosy here. We’re happy with Riverside, but others that read this forum may be interested in the answers to those questions.
