It is usually reserved for upperclassmen. This is an incentive to get honors upperclassmen to move out of honors.

they’re priced the same as the 4 bedroom units in honors.

I don’t know if they have been remodeled or why they weren’t offered before. Perhaps they were being remodeled and Bama didn’t know if they would be completed in time.

Since they’re priced the same as honors, I would hope that would mean that they’ve been updated.

M2CK: Just prior to housing selections in February, students got an e-mail that the Highlands would not be available, because the complex was undergoing renovations. Apparently, construction is finished so that it can be offered at this time.

I’m wondering if it wouldn’t be advantageous for everyone with housing issues to visit face to face during their scheduled orientation. I always found that more gets done this way than online or over the phone.

Can anyone in the community advise on where to go or who to ask for while on campus?

If you do not get an honors housing space by your Bama Bound session, do stop by and talk to housing in person. It’s not so much talking to a specific person but rather getting an honors space or at least an idea of when you will get an honors space. I’d suggest contacting whomever’s name is at the bottom of the e-mails housing is sending, but the people that work in housing are all very nice in my experience.

Just got off the phone with Housing. Highlands has not been updated/renovated…just cleaned. They decommissioned it with the thoughts of either doing a massive renovation or a tear down. Now that they need more space they’ve decided to let it go another year. Per my rising junior daughter it’s ‘sketchy’ She and her suitemates are going to pass on the move unless there’s a huge markdown in the room rate.

Thank all of you for your encouragement to keep checking. Just got S into honors room @ Riverside W. Saw a few open up although they seem to be going quickly. For anyone else looking it does seem they do move about.

My son was in that dorm his freshman year! It’s in a great location…close to Lakeside Dining, close to the honors pool, close to the Crimson Ride bus stop!

I’d definitely stay away from the Highlands- the rooms are in rather crummy condition (comparable to Rose Towers) and the location is just awful- adjacent to several frat houses; a couple of friends that live there despise the resulting noise levels on the weekends.

We got lucky yesterday…Riverside West…now big sister can keep an eye on him (this is her 3rd year in Riverside West) Unfortunately sis is thinking of comandeering some of his closet space!

Knittingmom: I’m sure that your son is just thrilled to hear that. I know my youngest son would be, and he would complain big time if he lost one inch of closet space, too.

You sure you’re not confusing Bryce Lawn Apartments with The Highlands? Bryce Lawn is across the street from Fraternity row. The Highlands sit north of the Riverside dorm complex and to the east of Rose Towers. To my knowledge there are no fraternity houses in that area of campus.

The Highlands is on the north side of campus…not near the frat houses. It’s almost a straight line north of Shelby.

Also, someone earlier said that Rose Towers doesn’t have basketball courts. I don’t thing that is true. The basketball courts are between Rose Towers and The Highlands.

So, I suggest that people at least look into The Highlands. They may be better than what some have suggested, since some may have confused the building with another.
