Room Re-Assignment

My S was assigned to Webb for the upcoming year. He is a freshman and is looking for a more traditional style dorm. He submitted a re-assignment form and has requested Pardee. What are his chances and when will he hear if his reassignment is approved?

Hi nifmom,

I went through the reassignment process myself…twice. Because I was a Spring Admit who was then bumped to the Fall, my housing app went in late. I originally had IRC (suite-style), and I too wanted the traditional style. Because Pardee is one of the most popular choices (terrific location AND a good balance between studying and socializing), it’s definitely not a guaranteed thing. What I think helped me was going into the housing office and talking with one of the employees about how the process works. I requested Pardee but was reassigned to Trojan Hall. I tried the reassignment process again and was put in the last open spot in Arts & Humanities during the summer before my freshman year.

I had originally really wanted the traditional style, as your son does, but I ended up having an amazing time in the suite style. Webb is also a really cool dorm and the RAs do a great job of getting the residents to interact as though they were in the traditional style dorm.

The applications are processed in June and July, so you should hear back by the middle of July, I believe. I hope it all works out for your son!
