Room Swap

I just found out that I did not get my first/second/third dorm preference. What is the process of swapping dorm rooms?

NerdWG, thanks for the heads up on housing. Looks like my son didn’t get any of his 5 choices and his room assignment is on East campus, when all of his choices were on West. I think we got something in the mail within the last week that had information about room Shop and Swap. It looks like there might be a way to access it where you find your assignment and roommate (maybe on July 7). There is also an opportunity on August 24 during something called “Switch Room.” My son doesn’t seem to mind not getting what he requested, but does anyone on here have any information on Glenn Hall?

I stayed in Glenn last year. To give you a quick rundown:

Pros:
Close to Britain Dining Hall
Close to freshman classes
Right beside the stadium
Close to the Greek life/various student organizations
Tutors in the basement (though West campus might have those too)

Cons:
Mostly the showers… kind of. They are basically a cluster with curtains separating you from the person next to you. That being said, it did not seem like a big deal to me as everyone on my hall took showers at different times and there are like 12 showers.

Other than that, my personal opinion was that Glenn was not bad (though others may say differently). Also, the PL’s there are really good (especially James if he is still there).

Thanks for the info on Glenn. Most everything I read about it was negative, so it was nice to see some pros along with the cons.

Do all east campus dorms have showers like that?? Or is it just Glenn and towers?

My son also got none of his 6 choices…(all were on West side). He’s in Smith Hall. Any pro’s/cons??? Makes me wonder why they are given “choices” in the first place.

Does anyone know if we can make long distance calls from the telephones in our rooms? Is it covered by the housing fee? Just curious. Housing mentions that they provide caller i.d.

Which campus is safer, East or West and why?

My roommate and I are living on west campus, but would rather be on the east, if anyone would like to switch with us. If you do, just email me at steven.marsh.sm@ gmail .com

D and I just got back from FASET. Two things we learned, they are at 103% capacity for housing (the guy was kind of negative about switching possibilities) and to answer question above, they do not provide telephone service.
My impressions between east and west… East seems closer to classes and is closer to Greek. West seems quieter and is nicer in terms of green space.
We got our third choice dorm but asked for roommate over dorm and paid deposit in January.
