I have been assigned to a quad with 3 others from western ny. i am from downstate and was hoping to get at least 1 person from my general area. Any suggestions on how to change this now?
Please help

from the UB residence FAQ:

Q: What should I do if I am not happy with my room assignment?
A: Students can submit an Assignment Change Request Form prior to the start of the Fall semester. This form is available online at [url=http://www.ub-housing.buffalo.edu]Welcome, homepage, University Residence Halls & Apartments Website - University at Buffalo/url. This completed form should be submitted to the Residential Operations Office, 106 Spaulding Quad. As cancellations come in and spaces open up, we will do room changes based on the original application date of the applicant. Historically, we are only able to honor a small number of room changes prior to the start of the Fall semester. If we are not able to change your room assignment prior to move-in, you are encouraged to speak to your Hall Director after move-in. The Hall Director will coordinate the room change process which begins several weeks after the Fall semester starts.

Don’t do that. Try it out first.

You will all be living at UB for the next year…it doesn’t matter where you are from, you’re going to be in the same place then.

It’s really not important where your roommates are from, but how you get along as people. It really would be foolish to try and change solely based on where they come from geographically. You could end up changing to someone from your area that you do not get along with at all!

To me, it doesn’t seem like a good reason to change. Try it out - you may like it. That’s what college, and especially dorming, is all about…meeting new people, making new friends. Geographic area doesn’t matter.

I am from WNY, I lived with suitemates from all over the state last year. One was from the area, a few were from Rochester, one from the southern tier, one from downstate…honestly, it didn’t matter where they were from. Some of my best friends that I made live not only across the state but even halfway across the country.

Give it a try…it’s really not worth changing if you ask me.

^Agreed…my daughter (small town, Central NY) lived with a girl from LI and one from Rochester last year. She was a bit skeptical of the fit with the LI’er, until they actually met. They’re all like sisters now and are rooming together next year as well. Go in with a good attitude and you may be pleasantly surprised!
