when do we find out who are roomate(s) are?

Around about july 15th

how many roomates does one get? one or two?

depends- freshmen have a high probability of getting a double (2 students sharing a room), but there are many triples, quads, and a few singles on campus. It's all pretty much the luck of the draw. So, to answer your question, you could have anywhere from 0 to 3 roommates.

Talk to your roommate. I know some people who had a pretty rough time because of communication issues. You need to be willing to be honest if you plan on surviving next year. I don't mean share bank passwords; just let your roommate know what you like to do and what you don't like. Don't assume that other people are "cool" with your "activities".

=( I am assuming I wont know my roommate till August or September since Im most likely going to get temp housing.

when was your deposit processed?

Mine was processed on the 26th April.. is there a high high chance that im gonna get temp housing?!?! Im so worried :(

i think the deposit date only affects which dorm you get, not when you find out your roomate.

If you get placed into temp, you can be moved around after you're offically assigned to temp, so you don't know for sure who your roommate is. I'm not sure they even tell temp housing people who their roommates are.

im off the waitlist so my deposit was processed on may 6th...or whatever the day i found out was. i wanted to share stuff with roommate (fridge, printer, iron, etc.) so that we wouldnt bring the same things and save room. guess i wont be able to do that now -__-.

fridge, printer, iron, eh?

We got a fridge with our room (go small oakland housing!), but we lacked a printer, iron, microwave, and TV for the entire year.

Mathson couldn't decided and waited till the last minute. For some reason he didn't figure out he could do the housing on line and spent ages waiting for them to send us a student ID number. I can't believe it turned out to be his SS #. Anyway it was at least the first week of May before the room deposit went in.

for some reason i thought your son decided to go to harvard? maybe i am hallucinating.

LOL. He did get into Harvard. But he liked CMU better. The computer science offerings are so much more extensive at CMU and they have less attitude. (Speaking as a Harvard grad who loved Harvard.) :)

haha i see. my brother is at harvard law right now :P

Temp housing may not be all bad. Sometimes they get really lucky and get placed in really nice rooms which people moved out of.

yea, i have heard of that too. one of my friends last year was placed in temp housing initially but then got a dorm room in new house(the all-freshman dorm with a/c).

according to facebook group, dorms are posted at:

acis.as.cmu.edu/sio/

then login and click on "aid/account" and then "submit"

i dont see it since i most likely have temp housing, but is should be the last line.

yeah, SIO is the first place you'll see information like dorms, grades, etc.

arghh Donner!!
