Rooming Problems

so I have a double in Baits II (Coman House).
My roommate wants to separate our beds but I'm afraid that leaves very little floor space. And I have a slight claustrophobia.

I asked her if she wants double lofts but she doesn't feel comfortable sleeping up high. I'm okay with it, so I'm thinking about getting a single loft.

So my questions are...
-is there enough space in a Baits II dorm for separated beds?
-is it okay if I get a loft and she doesn't?

It should be fine separating your beds. I lived in Markley which is known for small rooms, and still had ample amount of room after debunking. I suggest making your room plans when you go there by checking out how other people are positioning their furniture [while making friends assuming your a freshman] and trying things out a bit.

I’m sure there’ll be enough room, you’ll just have to be creative. There are lots of ways to even just create the illusion of more space if necessary that may ease your anxiety. If you are claustrophobic you most likely won’t like sleeping in a loft-- I am only able to in dorms with higher than average ceilings because there’s only a foot or two of space up there. I’m not even claustrophobic and that’s too much for me, I can’t sleep like that. I don’t know what the ceilings are like in Baits II but lofting may not be the solution you think it is, so you may want to consider alternative coping mechanisms anyway.

I’ve slept in bunk beds every summer with low ceilings so lofting is ok.

and the room is 11’x12’, btw.

My boyfriend lives in an 8x10, he is lucky enough that it is now a single but it used to be double. It will be cozy, as you are well aware. But I do think you can all fit with enough room, maybe pick a bed/desk by a window to help you feel less confined. You don’t have to do much of anything in there but sleep, so if you can manage that you’re fine.

Okay.
I hope this all works out.

Just try and keep an open mind, even if you get there and don’t think it’ll work. When boyfriend moved into the 8x10 it seemed so tiny I didn’t know how we’d ever live in it, but within a week or two we were totally used to it. It may take some adjustment but you’ll figure it out.

Question: Does a double deluxe mean two rooms for two people? I’m living in Baits I. Can anyone tell me how big it is and what this means 11 x 12?

According to the housing floor plans the deluxe single has a study, maybe the double is just two people in a similar arrangement.

[Floor Plans](http://www.housing.umich.edu/residencehalls/popup.php?floorplans=baits&file=baits_dbl_suite.gif)

There isn’t a floor plan of the deluxe double on the site unfortunately.

It’s 11 feet in one direction and 12 feet in the other direction.

My son is also in Bait II. If you plan to loft the bed, are there companies on site that will do that for you, and do you have to arrange for it in advance? Where do they store the bed frame you are given?

Companies are not on site to do your physical labor. You need to work with a roommate or whoever is willing to help to arrange your room.

This is the company that umich had on their website: Lofts

You have to order by Aug 26.
