Rooming with a friend...

When I fill out the housing form, will there be an option for me to input a friend that I'd prefer to room with? And what are my chances of actually being able to room with my preferred friend if I have the option?

We both got into the Fall '09 semester and we'll put down the same dorms I'm sure. So... ?

yeah. they let you request it. The housing site says that they honor requests 99.9% of the time.

Oh dang, I didn't know that. Hopefully I can get everything worked out then!

Can any current students recommend the best dorms/dorms to avoid?

As gatorboy said, its an option on the application. However, when request someone as your roommate, the housing dept changes your priority date to whoever has the latest one. So if he or she paid the $25 in Jan and you paid it in Aug, then your date will be changed to Jan.

Many threads on this, so do a search. If you still have a specific question then you can ask. Generally the most popular freshmen dorms are the traditional dorms (i.e many rooms sharing one central bathroom). Those include Broward/Jennings on east campus and Simpson/Trustler on west campus. You meet more people in the traditional dorms, however, some people want a quieter environment and will go to Fletcher, Sledd, and if you can get in, Murphree. You wont meet as many people with how they are designed. Popular upperclassmen dorms are Murphree and Keys.

Sorry about not searching. It's quite ironic because I belong to several large car forums in which I conduct multiple searches every day. On those sites, there are threads with a lot of important info from years and years back.

Anyway, is that $25 the only housing payment due or will we have a larger sum to pay for on-campus housing?

Initially, the $25 is all that's due, but when you are assigned a room you will be sent a bill in the June/July/Aug time period. If you get deferment, then you can pay it when you fin aid comes in.
