Ok, let me start off by saying that I turned my housing survey in on time, if not earlier. Most people think that I don’t have a housing assignment yet because I turned in my housing survey late. I turned in my survey about 2 weeks after I got the letter of acceptance from BU. However, I still do not having a housing assignment, and I really thought they would have gave me my assignment by now… after all its is a month after everybody else got theirs. I feel that its really unfair for me to wait this long to get my housing assignment… On top of this, I got the scholarship for FYSOP, so I’m going to be doing that. And for FYSOP I have to move in on August 25th, which is about 3 weeks from now. Its very inconvenient for me to not know my housing assignment or my roommate… Not only is it making me anxious, but I need to know it so I can get all my stuff sorted out. For example, alot of my documents and stuff are asking for my college address, like the FYSOP letter… I’m also going to be going away for the most of August, and not knowing my roommate sucks. I want to work out certain things with my roommate, like renting a micro-fridge. I’ve e-mailed housing and even called them, and they said they’re still making assignments. Its hard to believe that there are still people without housing assignments. I’m going to be off to college in 3 weeks, and I have no idea where I’m even heading…

So… after all that writing, my question is…

Does anybody know the latest by which I’ll get my housing assignment and roommate (I called they said they don’t know when the latest is… which makes me think that its going to be like august 22nd or 25th or something retardedly close to when I’m goin to be moving in…

Wow never heard of anything like this. I work in an office at my college at BU and I always get annoyed when people have their parents call on their behalf for the most trivial things, but in this case I think you do just that. Have one of your parents call and be really unsatisfied about it- trust me, they'll figure it out right there on the phone or if not later that day.

I have the same problem! I turned my survey in May and they just said, "We probably haven't gotten to you yet." I even explained I turned mine in early and that's all they said. =/ I have no room assignment either.

I didn't get mine until the first or second week of August, if I remember correctly. I was in the Hyatt, but I don't think they're putting freshmen there anymore.

Yah, my mom called and she told them that it's ridiculous. She told them that we'll probably be out of the country for the entire of august, and that I need to know my roommate and stuff soon so I can get some matters sorted.. They don't care it seems..

Ouch! It is late. Everyone I know going to college knows their dorm and most know their roommates. I am one who likes to have ducks in a row...not that it would make a difference in what I buy or pack, but I have to mentally see it or map it out, picture it way ahead. I hate last minute frenzy mode. This is not a great feeling to start out the fall with. How many assignments could they have left???

housing/res life is just one of the worst managed and worst operated offices at BU. I've had so many issues with them it's really not even funny.

You can't blame them too much, BU's student body is so large, and it's hard to secure buildings in a city like Boston, which is why BU keeps overflowing into nearby hotels. Hopefully with the completion of StuVi II, things will run a bit more smoothly. Just be happy that BU is one of the colleges that guarantees housing for its students, provided they don't move off campus on their own.

Well, if you're willing to decline your acceptance, be my guest. Ultimately, it is up to you to decide whether you want to attend or not over a silly issue such as getting your housing a little late into the summer. Just think about what you just said, I'm sure someone on the waiting list would love to be your friend now.

Colleges all over the US are expanding, and no doubt that they will run into some slow times in assigning dorms. Not all colleges guarantee housing for 4 years for their students. BU does, and they are in fact keeping up with their end of the bargain, which is why I can't see why you would want them to just flat out cut back on admissions just because some whiney little freshmen can't get their housing info early enough...you will get a dorm, it just takes some time. They're not going to just let you come up to Boston and bum on the streets.

But...if you really wanted colleges to just hold their quota at a constant rate from now on just because you want your housing early, you minus well put in some legislation that forces applicants to battle it out gladiator style for limited spots in colleges...

You have a problem with being guaranteed housing, but getting your info a little late, and you wish to just leave? Fine, go ahead, no point in complaining about cutting back on admissions. You have a problem with how a school conducts themselves in education/research in terms of ethics, or something more serious? Ok, you have a more legitimate excuse to ask a college to tone down a bit.

Bottom line...you will get housing. It's guaranteed. Don't jump off the MIT bridge yet...at least wait til the winter for the added effect.

First of all, you should know that freshmen year is the most trying and anxious time. It involves alot of change and me leaving my home for a new home. Also, they shouldn't just give out dorm assignments to 3/4th of the students and then leave the rest hanging.. Release them at the same time, so others don't get anxious. I'm not being whiny, I have other things I'm taking care of, and I want to be prepared for wherever i'm heading; I can't take care of all my matters in 2 days.. Believe me, getting housing late is NOT a silly issue; its a serious issue.. it leaves me with very little time to make changes and be ready.

Cutting back on admissions is a good solution to what they are going through, maybe then they won't have such ridiculous problems. I know BU is known to be money hungry, but still.

And last of all, you don't battle it out gladiator style to get the limited spots in college. You dedicate and prove yourself in high school so you earn that spot in college. Holding a constant rate of admissions means that you get a better quality of students. There is nothing wrong with that.. It would also fix alot of their housing problems.(not to mention many of their other problems)

And I would watch where you hurl your insults. I talk in a respectful manner; if you don't want to, don't even bother replying to a topic.

Update on one of the BC going kids: he and a friend were set to room together but they were split up anyway. Crap happens.

I assume you're calling the housing office to find out your status.

What happens is this - and it's similar at any school, more similar at any other big school: some people pull out, others don't show, still others don't come up with money and some people who are going abroad don't and others who weren't suddenly are, and so there's a big bunch of room switching that begins before school starts and continues for a little while.

The best deal used to be the Hyatt because you got first choice after one term. I knew freshmen in singles in nice dorms - which, btw, cost more so it's a mixed blessing.
