Hi, I am interested if anyone has experience with choosing a specific roommate from the profiles or if it may be better to just go with the random pairing? We are trying to fill out the housing forms. Does this need to be turned in sooner to get a better situation?
Thanks

My son picked his freshman roommate through profiles and had a great experience.

My DDs both went random. They felt it was better not to feel obligated to be friends and hang out when they met in person, and that that pressure would be there if they “chose” each other. D1 and her first roommate roomed together the next year, and are dear friends. D2 and her roommate got a long fine, are still in touch and have a meal together sometimes, although they have very different social circles. There does not seem to be any advantage to filling out forms early. Tufts appears to wait for the deadline and do the housing in one swing.

My son also left Tufts pick his roommate and also had a very good experience. They were a good match and spent time together socially but developed different social circles.

Thank you for your feedback! Daughter posted her profile and has had no contacts come in, so we think everyone is probably tentative and not wanting to commit. I think she will let housing pick her roommate at random, so there will be less pressure.
