So I'm going to be a freshman in the honors program in the fall, and I'd like to live in Hume. I requested a roommate (who's also in honors) and we both put Hume as our first choice. Out of the two of us, she has the later priority date of September 27th. I've been really worried about this lately: what would you say is the chance that we don't get to live in Hume? Did anyone here live in Hume and request a roommate and have it all work out just fine?

Thanks,
Kaitlin

september 27 is a pretty early priority date; I wouldn't worry

Hi Kaitlin:

According to this website: UF Department of Housing and Residence Education Undergraduate Assignments - INCOMING STUDENTS: What is a good Housing Application Date?

September 27 is an excellent priority date. It would put your priority date somewhere between the first 10-20% of students that are applying for housing for the fall.

You should be just fine! You should have the best of all worlds, the dorm you want with a roommate that you are compatible with! Enjoy your freshman year!

I also found this question and answer in the comments section of the above referenced blog :

A student (jaimeastorga2000) asked: "I did have a pretty late housing application date (sometime in February of 2008). Would it be a good idea to re-evaluate? Also, I was accepted in the UF Honors program so I wish to live in "Honors Residential College at Hume - Suites" for Fall/Spring."

The undergraduate assignment people gave the following answer:

"For Fall, if you have been admitted to the Honors Program and you requested Hume 1st, you will likely be assigned to Hume."

Note how late his housing date is and, still the housing dept, feels that he will "likely" be assigned to Hume.

I think you are definitely okay!

...XD @ Having My Name Mentioned.

:-) at jaime ^^ . . . you're a star!

Thank you, this is very reassuring. I was worried because I don't really know of anyone in Hume who requested a roommate, but now I realize that's probably because not many people and their friends are in honors, and Hume is also very expensive.

Bump to let you guys know I did get into Hume after all. Just found out today. Only one roommate, too ^_^
