This was mentioned at the info session I attended Monday. Is this something we should fill out before room selection? Everyone we talked to on campus recommended potluck roommate selection, but son would like to be matched with people with the same lifestyle, ie, nonsmokers. Son would also like to have his best friend as one of his suitemates, but I don’t think his friend has even paid his enrollment deposit yet. Will his friend have to pay his enrollment and housing deposit before son can even pull him in as a roommate? I think son paid his deposits around December, but not sure of the date. He is in Honors, so should get a somewhat early sign up time. Lucky for the honors kids who got in and paid right away. Looks like they’re going in just a couple of weeks. Will pass this heads up on to our friends who are juniors who are looking at Bama as their college choice.

I think finding roommates may be easier (and better) by using the Facebook’s roommate finder application.

How is that done? If there’s already been a link, sorry to be repetitive. If you can direct me there, I’d appreciate it. I’m sure others new to this forum would appreciate the info as well.

I hope SEA_Tide will post the “how.”

I think you may have to be part of the Alabama Class of 2014 group, and then…I’m not sure…LOL

Last year my DD posted info on Facebook.

General info non smoker, honors quad etc. She found all her roommates this way.
First she meet a honors girl who pulled her into her quad.

Then they both looked for the other 2 room mates.
Many honors students are undecided until late spring.

This method of roommate matching was suggested by housing when we called!

Also you may be able to see when you will be allowed to select a room:

Go to mybama
Click on Student Tab
in right corner under Banner Self Service
Click on Student Life
Then Residential Housing Application…

Last year once all forms where filled out it would give a date you could access the sign up page. Again that was last year…

If you are going to pull or be pulled into a room I believe the “puller” may have to have your student ID (check that out…)

Best of luck! DD lives near the pool & loves it! Sat out ther all weekend when it was nice!

Thanks for the info, omama. What Facebook page is that? Son is not a frequent Facebook user, so I’ll have to encourage him to use this for roommate purposes if this is the best method. For all I know, he may have met his future roommates this weekend, but I’d like to pass any info I find out to any of our friends who will be going to Bama next year.

I will try your myBama suggestion. This is the kind of thing I was looking for, sort of a menu driven checklist.

And lastly, you said your daughter lives near the pool. So does she live in Riverside? What building and wing is she in? Would love to hear more about the rooms there. Son and I loved the quad there and saw many students enjoying the nice weather. He also liked the location. But since we’ve only seen the inside of the model room at Ridgecrest, would love to hear more about the setup in Riverside. Also, is your daughter in the honors program? Son would like to be with honors students and hopes to be near other engineering majors, too, so they can study together. Thank you so much for your help.

On the facebook group’s discussion section, there is a thread for finding roommates that both genders post on and one specifically for guys. There, the student can post answers to a questionnaire that explains a little bit about them. It is perfectly acceptable to message/friend request people that you might be interested in rooming with. As for pulling in a roommate, that is done using the roommate’s proxy code (listed on the page where the housing contract info is).

Thank you so much, omama! Found the link and found the date contract completed, so I know when I can sign in. As the time changed with Dec 5, I wanted to be sure of the date, and we did get in before then, so we do get to start an hour earlier.

Thanks also Seatide for your help.

Since there are so many University of Alabama Facebook pages, can you please tell us specifically which page he should join to take advantage of this roommate finder app if he needs to? I’d like to pass on the info to our friends as well who are attending next year.

Thanks so much for your help!

Yes she lives in Riverside not sure what the building is called…North?

Her roommate had all the dorms scoped out as she travels to T Town often.

She also wanted a corner room so they are at the end of the hall; that may give you extra
space not sure…

Their living room has a nice view & out back is parking. But down the hill is the beautiful River & path that runs next to it…

Sorry about the Id # just knew we had to share some number…

In my opinion all the Honors dorms are nice; there are pluses and minus to all.
The photos on the web page are really accurate. They also have a group study room on her floor.

The furniture color changes…but after you get you assignment you can find out that information!

Also when she moved in we kept seeing people bring bikes in the elevator…they have a bike room where you can hang & lock your bike up!

Closer to lakeside dining; or pool and club house.

I did a facebook search for Alabama 2014 and selected the group with over a thousand members, I think the group’s name is “University of Alabama Class of 2014” or something similar.

According to my daughter another good site is [College Roommate Finder | URoomSurf](http://www.Uroomsurf.com) There are currently over 190 girls and 40+ boys registered on the Bama site! They match you on compatability and what you want in a roommate and then you fill out a profile and can get to know someone better!

Thanks for posting about that site. I wasn’t sure if it was legit or not. We’ll check that one out as well.

Got the account set up. Son set up his profile last night, so he’s on there. This is the roommate finder on the Bama housing website.

Anyone know how this works? Do kids enter profiles and get matched up and contact each other somehow?

There is a message bar as part of the site. Is that where kids contact each other, or do they contact each other by the email they put as part of their profile?

I really don’t know the answer, but I personally would e-mail anybody that I might want to room with. A little trick, if they give their crimson e-mail, you can start writing a new e-mail to them on the crimson e-mail and it will display their name so that you can look them up on facebook if you want to.

Thanks for the tip!

Hooray! Found the search option on Roommate Finder. Thanks, Bama, for providing this service. Hope son can find some matches before the 23rd when he picks his room!

Montegut, My son too is looking for roomies in the honors college at AL. He has registered on the roommate finder. We are from Macon GA, tell your son to look him up, there are 2 boys from our town so I will say my sons initials are cb

Montegut and gamom, or anyone else…I already have my housing done for Ridgecrest West and there are two more rooms available in the suite and if your sons are interested you could PM me their roomate proxy code and I could get them in so that they don’t have to wait to do housing later.

Wouldn’t that be nice to find roomies here on CC. :)

^^^That would be nice. It’s fun too when you know that you and your roommates (or their parents) all post on CC.
