Roommate heat problem

just because the heat is “off” doesn’t mean it’s at 52 degress for sure, it could be warmer purely because ur in a building. my family keeps the heat off and it’s ridiculously cold so i can understand the position of ur roommates, but i can also understand where ur coming from. why don’t u guys just drop the heat to 60 and wear warm clothes?

it is 64 in here and I’m cold.

Haha you’re lucky. My roommate set it at 78 in the middle of winter.

I am going to move anyway, one of my roommates won’t sleep until 2 am,while me and the other roommate go to bed before 10,4 hours just for this****,ridiculous…
btw merry christmas

This is asked alot and if you agreed to split the bills evenly then you have no choice. Its better to be warm anyway. My mom wont turn the heat up and its sometimes not even 50 in my house. It was 47 yesterday in here. For xmas i asked for a new blanket and i got a really warm one so i am usually not cold when i am sleeping anymore. I wish it was 70 in here. I looked on wiki and they said that room temperature is 68 to 80. I dont think they are right cause 80 is like hot. I think it should be more like 55 to 70. I think old people like it to be hot inside.

How are you going to move? Generally, you’re in a lease if you have an apartment. And who cares if they’re up til 2 AM? My roommate is generally up like 4 hours after me and we live in a one-room dorm room.

I’m up until 2 am on most days…usually working on work…my roommate goes to bed by 12. And we live in a small dorm room. Never been an issue, I just keep quiet.

10 pm is early. You’re in college.

If he is being obnoxious/making a lot of noise, and you have already addressed this with him, then your point could be valid.

I’ve done worse with the roommate bedtime situation.

Freshman year, my roommate sleeps at 9pm. I slept at 4am. We’re also both relatively light sleepers.

However, with a bit of tricks, we figured out a way to keep us “content” for a year:

 • Fan is always turned on at night for white noise to drown out any accidental noise I make
 • I study with a small LED light; lights off when roommate goes to bed
 • Both of us try to be keep the noise down

It worked for a year, surprisingly. However, I got really tired of accommodating my roommate and I moved into a single. I’m never looking back :)
