Roommate Selection Issue

The university that I will be attending in the Fall decided to throw out its Roommate matching service in favor of a self-assign program, in which you just basically choose a random room in the building you like...

I signed up on the first day the self-assign was open and I got a room in what is basically the best building on campus and is supposedly filled up by now...But because people have been finding people on Facebook and essentially finding out they may not be the best roommate, they are switching out like crazy either to another building (since there is no spots left in this building) or sticking it out just because its such a nice building...To tell you the truth, I am about to receive my 3rd roommate and I just got my suitemate's 3rd roommate's information...Meaning I have already went through 2 roommates and my suitemate is on his third roommate...

The issue that we are having is that me and the original suitemate who have stuck it out have the same first name, that's not the issue, we really don't care about that, but his new roommate also has the same first name as us, which can be really awkward...

Do I wait and see if he switches out to another suite or another building or do I contact the Housing office about this, since it would be difficult to have 3 people in the same suite with the same name? I don't want to leave this suite and I don't think the Housing office would move the new suitemate out without his consent and that would be jerkish of me to even ask the Housing office to do...Also, when you choose a suite on this new computer system, it doesn't tell you who is in it until you choose the room finally, I am thinking this new system is very flawed...

In a situation like this, what should I do? Thank you for reading all of that, I know it was a lot of information...

hahahhahhahaahahahahaha

ok.

ummmm i really don’t think it’d be the biggest deal if you had a suite w/ 3+ people with the same name … you’d just go by last names or you’d get nicknames …

but, i think that’s a really weird way to do roommate selection. oh well.

yeh, this really is a stupid system, but i guess they did it this way so they couldn’t say that they matched people up and then matched people end up hating each other, i guess…instead they can say, well you picked the room yourself!

Don’t worry about names. Lots of kids end up with nicknames by the end of the year anyway.

dude ***? is this really a problem? if it is, consider yourself lucky. Who cares what the names are? You’ll find a way to communicate.

Yeah, I don’t think it’s a hudge issue to switch roommates. You could call each other by last names if there are times it’s not that obvious who your trying to communicate to.

This could be a really fun situation. You’ll just get nicknames for each other.

I’ve personally hung out in groups in which four of us had the same name. :)

i rarely call my friends by their names lol…usually nicknames

Ed, Edd and Eddy…sorry I couldn’t help myself. :P

But seriously it doesn’t seem to bad, i’d atleast try it with all three of you guys and see how the name situation goes before making any decisions to switch rooms.
