roommates and roombug

do a lot of students use roombug to find roommates?

I’ve also been wondering about this.
So far, there are only 180ish people using Roombug but Emory’s average freshman class size is about 1500-2000. I know that there might be more people after May 1st because that is the $450 deposit deadline.

Personally, I don’t think RoomBug is very efficient. I don’t think there are enough questions/info available to really determine what the person is like. Some people don’t have anything in their “About Me” and “Ideal Roommate” sections. I know that most active people on Roombug have just been adding people on Facebook and talking to them that way. I just thought Roombug could’ve been a bit more detailed.

I’ve also heard that some people find roommates at the Open Houses in April.

I recently read somewhere (can’t remember the source) that about 60% of the incoming freshmen at Emory do not submit a roommate request. That means that they will get a random roommate.

^Yeah, when I went to the Open House on April 18, they said that about 70% of people don’t request a specific roommate… that seems like the best way to go, IMO, unless you’ve been good friends with another incoming student for several years…

Did they say whether there is a questionaire? I recall my oldest who graduated from Emory last year had to fill out some of the basic questions - are you messy, do you smoke, can you study to music, etc. She and her room mate were pretty compatible and I don’t recall hearing that any of her hallmates had issues. Wonder if they still do that?
