I learned it from dubya.

Most Asian parents are in fact very concerned with grades. Note that I said most, not all. A lot of my Chinese friends whom I've talked to tell me that if they don't get at least a certain mark, they will get into trouble.

There are exceptions though, such as my mom.

I don't even know what TTT means sixsixty. talk in English Mr speech Writer, ****ing idiot.

Honestly, UB-Vinny77, you do come off as a racist considering that you generalized asian parents as "crazy" based off of one instance in which your roommate's parents yelled at him. Proof?

I personally find a statement like "Asian people are crazy." to be offensive. If you want to argue that there are cultural differences in learning styles and expectations, fine. But calling an entire race of people crazy based on one situation isn't appropriate.

To which you replied:

I think it is.

Why don't you explain why you think it is? Becchalk asked you this question but you avoided answering (I suppose because it is difficult to come up with a fair and logical answer).

(Side note: TTT = third tier toilet.)

I meant it as third tier trash, but toilet works too i guess.

Haha ***. The parents should relax a bit. He probably hates talking to his parents and may even be stressed out during exams because of his parents.

Wow the people in this thread need to stop being so defensive. I am Asian and I totally feel for this guy's roommate. Yes, I see where the indignation in this thread is coming from. But I also see where the original poster is coming from. Come on! Yelling at a kid because he got an A on a college exam? That IS crazy no matter what. And that sort of behavior is 99.9% of the time unique to Asian parents.
And the fact that the angry people in this thread retaliated by calling the OP "third tier trash" only serves to highlight the elitism and pettiness of Asians.
It isn't politically correct, but deep down inside you know it's true.

third tier toilet isint that nice. Since when is it a third tier school. Looks first to me http://www.usnews.com/usnews/edu/college/rankings/brief/t1natudoc_brief.php.

when applying to colleges I got accepted to #33 as well as #42, though I still chose UB and still think it has a much better engineering department, and am confident in my decision. UB is really highly ranked in Business, #10 according to WSJ and in my Engineering its 51 according to USNews. Thogh tuition is $4300 a year and we have better resources that most top colleges, I think I made a good decision. I didnt judge a school from some arbitrary numbers thogh, I visited and loved it. ****ing school is great. Even my roomate, got a 1530 on his SAT on a 1600 scale, why is he at UB, when he got accepted to Cornell, NYU and even UPenn. Think about it dumbass. BUt rankings dont really matter to much Like I have said before, I like my school.

But we will stick with our third tier toilet because we like it.

Sorry: can someone please tell me what UB is? I haven't heard that acronym before.

amazing how many supposedly "smart" people on this board can be so dumb. Rankings are for the lame and those with very low self esteem.

type it into your best friend google

I agree 100% d3f3nd3r, but whats all that matters to some other on this forum.

mallomar cookie again strikes with the best post on the thread yet. applause for mallomar because i wholeheartedly agree.

OP: your roommate even TALKS to his/her parents? If I were at college I sure as hell wouldn't....you know, in the interests of my sanity...

And I don't want to hear this:

"Why did you get a 99 in finance? How come you're not taking more science classes? Why didn't you change your mind? What's wrong with majoring engineering? I don't care if you hate science! Business majors are dumb slackers! You're going to have a crappy job because you're majoring in finance! Blablabla" I like my parents and all, but sometimes they sound like blithering idiots.

University at Buffalo, eh?
why is he at UB, when he got accepted to Cornell, NYU and even UPenn.
If it's not for financial reasons, it's probably because he's stupid.

Re-read my post, sherlock. I only said UB was TTT to make a point that vinny was being judgemental and over-generalizing.

Sure, I feel bad for the kid too. But who are you to call his parents crazy? And by saying "Asian people are crazy," you're effectively calling HIM crazy too. Did that ever occur to you?

If you worded it "Obsessive asian parents are crazy," fine, I can deal with that. Or "Asian parents are crazy about grades," that's cool too. But to slur four billion people based one 1 anecdote, or however many there have been on this board (make it 1000, even 10000, its still a tiny sample size), is simply ridiculous. Its all about parameters my friend.

Both of his parents are in the medical field. One an Eye doctor and another a RN at Beth Israel. There are a ton of people at this school with super high standards, not everybody can be stupid. He wants to be a Cardiothoracic Surgeon, and his parents gave told him when he tuned 18 that they have 800K saved up for his education. people aren't idiots when they have that much money, and people with that much money don't make bad dicisions. Id like to also mention he has 11 other M.D in his Family.

^ You're right, but still I'll quote brand on this:
Would I be generalizing if I said people that big-deal something like this have nothing else to do? Go find something else to do. This is an internet forum...nobody cares.
EDIT: Vinny, I would be so bold as to state that he is an idiot for choosing UB over Cornell, NYU, or UPenn.

To that I'll say, try posting some klan slogans on this or any other board frequented by thousands of members. Let's see if its true that nobody cares about what's said on an internet forum.

If he wants to be a doctor, if ya didn't notice it doesn't matter whats ya study or where ya study in your undergraduate years. I wouldn't call him an idiot. A 3.7 and a 2.7 at Cornell with both be seen as the same. A 4.0 from UB and a 3.5 From Cornell, the student from UB will be the better candidate. Same as if a student is a engineering major compared to a dance, If the dance has a higher GPA with the same pre-reqs, then the dance major will be taken over the engineering because pof higher GPA, even thogh engineering was a hell of a lot harder, it wouldent matter to any admission committee.
