So I'm going to be going to UCLA this fall and I was wondering are you guys going to request friends as roommates or just go with whatever random people they assign you? and yes, I know requesting friends as roommates doesn't guarantee you'll get them. What do you think the pros and cons of each are?

I’m doing random at SB so I can meet people.

Join the Facebook group and ask there (assuming you haven’t yet). “2013 UCLA Transfers”

I don’t have facebook lol :D

If you and your best friend(s) are inseparable (the type that gets each other even when no words are said, that kind of closeness) then go for it, try rooming together. Just know that college is the time where you open up and meet (MORE) people that you may befriend for the rest of your life, depending on where your major takes you and all that. I’d recommend trying to room with random roommates to force yourself to open up to more people BUT I did that and ended up with a roommate with the complete opposite habits as me… It’s a bargain, I’d still stay try and random it up, if anything it’s not permanent.

@Eltwong was it something that was covered in the housing questionnaire? I hear you shouldn’t put ‘no preference’ for anything.

@adnrewxd I’m not sure about how your housing policy was, but for mine i THINK (it was atleast 2-3 years ago, I’m not to sure anymore) there was a place to put certain interests? If not, then the only preference I could put was which type of housing (2 person dorm, 1 person dorm, 3 person dorm, or on-campus apartments) I wouldn’t worry or overthink this too much, the dorms are for you to meet new people and have fun. If things don’t work out, you can (sometimes) petition to move to another open room which might be a single, or just hang out in the rooms where there are people you like majority of the time.

random dorm mates to meet new people, and make new friends.
