roommates

I heard (through a not very reliable source, but it's all I've heard on the matter) that Wes doesn't really do a roommate survey, and just groups randomly. Is that true? If so, are roommate matching sites popular? I'm in some ways a particular sleeper, etc., so it'd be nice to have some say in who I'm rooming with.

Yes that is true. Wes does not do a roommate survey. they claim they end up with the same number of reassignment request without the survey as they did with. As far as housing goes, what they do ask is which dorms you prefer, all freshman or freshman and sophmore. so you more or less pick location and style. Some freshman even get single, which some people like, others dont. By researching the dorm options you can increase your chances by requesting certain dorms.

I dont know about roommate sites, but I do know in my sons class, people used the WESadmit group on facebook, to find a roomate. Certain athletes paired up, and some people found their roommates there. Others took a chance. Some met on accepted students day and hit it off.

Wes has lots of housing options singles, true doubles, and 2 room doubles, and also single sex floors as options for freshman. If you do attend accepted students day, try to get a look at each type of room, as well as the dorm locations. Even more options open up for upperclass students. Housing is one of the best features about Wes…

Okay, thanks. I’m honestly not as worried about housing options – I’d basically be okay anywhere, from what I’ve researched – as who I’ll be living with. I really want a first year roommate, but I’m not a super crazy partier, but I’m also not a really quiet bookworm. Are people usually pretty happy with who they end up with?

It runs the spectrum. Most are happy. Some are happy enough to last the year but want new roommate next year and some want to switch mid year, which I think is an option.

The majority of people I know are either best friends, friends, or acquaintances with their roommates. I know of a few people who have either switched rooms/roommates or have had problems and worked through it. I wouldn’t worry too much about it. I actually chose my roommate through some Wes 2014 facebook group survey that she did and we’re best friends now. I would suggest checking those surveys out – I can’t think off of the top of my head of one person who did it who wasn’t happy or at least able to deal with their roommate. Choosing certain dorms can possibly also dictate what experience you have, but only to a certain extent.

you can switch after a month, i think (for each new semester). on one hand, a bunch of my friends have switched more than once, but on the other, i know a lot of people who love their roommates.
my roommate and i found each other on the last day to submit housing apps through the facebook survey. we really didn’t know that much about each other but we took a chance and we’re best friends. we arranged our two-room double so that one room is a living room and the other is a bedroom, and that’s been great. we really chanced it though by having that arrangement from the start; few people got along as quickly and as well as my roommate and i did.

in any case, a lot of people participate in the surveys on the wesadmit groups and then people message each other from there. someone in the group will start it with some basic questions, then you read other people’s and see who you’d want to room with and message them. don’t be afraid to message them; everyone who will do the survey is in the same boat and is looking for a roommate (unless they’ve already found one) so they won’t bite. it’ll probably save them a bit of relief since everybody’s always a little nervous to, you know, ask another person they’ve never met to live with them…

my recommendation for freshman year is a two-room double. i don’t think i’d be able to live in a one-room double, and a single freshman year would be rough the first couple weeks. i know a lot of people who love their one-room double or single, but i personally could not picture myself living in either.

good luck!

Okay. I’m not sure how that’ll work because the groups are different this year thanks to Facebook. It’s just like one big newsfeed instead of having the discussion board, so I’m not sure where that survey would go. Anyway, it’s not that big a deal. Thanks!

For “azwethinkweiz”, which dorm has 2 room doubles? Because that sounds preetttttttyyy cool.

The Nic’s (Nicholsen) have 2 room doubles…not sure of others

the nicolson and westco dorms have two-room doubles (although not all the rooms are). if you get placed in either, though, you’ll most likely get a two-room double. there are a couple one-room doubles in them and a couple singles but they’re almost all two-room doubles.
clark and fauver, the all freshmen dorms, have traditional one-room doubles.
the butts have singles, one-room doubles, and triples.
