any current students willing to voice their opinions on finding a roommate via facebook? i'm not sure if i want to try that or leave it up to pot luck. both options make me nervous, for different reasons so i'm curious to hear of others' experiences.

Scope it out on Facebook. If there's nobody you find to be suitable, then try the "pot luck" approach. Do they have a roommate sheet where you describe your habits and what you're looking for in a roommate?

I used facebook and it worked out. My roommate and I get along very well and are really close friends. If you do talk to someone through the internet or whatever, be sure to be honest so there's no surprises when you guys get to school.

theres a roommates thread on the unc 2012 group

I used Facebook to find my roommate, too, and we get along really well. We sent a bunch of messages back and forth to ensure that neither of us were borderline psychotic or excessively conservative (worse? haha) and just made sure both had the same housing preferences. I have an awesome suite--we're all super close.

Potluck isn't too scary, though, and it's pretty easy to switch if you turn out to have the Roomie From Hell. There isn't a questionnaire or anything to match people..they pretty much only ask if you're a smoker, but now that there's a smoking ban, they probably won't even bother with that question.
