<p>My major is going to be biomedical and I got placed in the Roosevelt Quad. I know there is no correlation between your major and dorm. But I keep hearing Roosevelt is bad and ghetto? Is this true? Are there any pros for this dorm? Thanks in advance.</p>

<p>Hi Izak1029. I am a mom who has a son who will be a senior at SB next year and has lived on roosevelt the past 3 years (next year he will be in the apartments on campus). I e-mailed him and he passed on this info.: It has not been that terrible. As for the quad itself, it’s not that beautiful but the courtyards are nice during the spring and late summer. The rooms are reasonably sized and carpeted, which is a plus. I guess that’s good. There are usually people in the rec rooms downstairs and what not. As for it being “ghetto,” don’t listen to that. It’s across from Kelly Dining, it’s corridor style, not suite style, and it’s close to the main campus. Granted, now it is a bit of a mess because there is construction going on for a new dorm - you may want to ask residential life if construction will be completed by the fall.
Also, if you are interested one of the buildings on the quad - Wagner - is 24 hour quiet, which means that it’s pretty much silent 24/7 (son was there last year, and although the studious type, thought it was too quiet). It is what you make of it.<br>
At the end of the day, and with options to go elsewhere for 3 years, he chose to stay.
You are right, though, the major and where you are housed really does not make a difference. He is a poli sci major/journalism minor.
You can try to change your housing -that is up to you, but I would not be too concerned.</p>
<p>Roosevelt isn’t my favorite, but I wouldn’t call it unsafe. I mean, come on… no one talks about the West Apartments being unsafe, and they’re right behind Roosevelt.</p>
<p>Pros: Only quad with non-medical singles (and it’s easier to go from a Roosevelt double to a Roosevelt single than from another quad to a Roosevelt single, so living there as a freshman is pretty much your only shot for getting a single as a sophomore). Corridor style, and people often leave their doors open so it’s very social. Close to Kelly dining, close to the SAC, close to parties in West. The Global Studies college has worked hard on having a lot of events and programming, and is pretty big on school spirit-type stuff. Big lounges in the lobby to hang out in.</p>
<p>Cons: Not the most scenic quad. Windows in bedrooms are stupidly placed. Beware of broken glass in the courtyard.</p>
