Does anyone know anything about Roosevelt University? Is the college in a good location? Are the dorms nice? Are the classes good? Any information about Roosevelt University in Chicago would really help.

My son and I visited it. It’s got a cool location in the city, if you like an urban feel. It’s right on Michigan Avenue, and I think the main building used to be a hotel. When you walk into the lobby, there is a grand curved staircase going up - it looks like a fancy hotel lobby. The administrative offices were there, and then classrooms were upstairs. We did see some classrooms - pretty functional and nondescript. The library was a really cool room. I think it’s in a great location - south loop - and my husband and I often find ourselves in that area when we’re on vacation in Chicago. It includes the Auditorium Theatre, which shows Broadway shows as well as school performing arts - I think we saw Spamelot there last year. Students get in all the shows there for next to nothing.

From what I remember, our tour guide said that there were almost two distinct Roosevelt Universities - the dance/theater school and the rest. Apparently, it’s dance/theater department is really good. I’m not sure if the academic classes are good. We never quite felt like we could figure out how good the actual education is there. Based on admissions standards, and the lack of any information about the school, and the uninformative website, my son just never could make himself get excited about it, even though it’s exactly the type of setting he wants (urban) - he could totally picture himself going out for coffee on a Saturday morning or catching the El to go somewhere in town. We saw the dorms - from what I remember, the dorm we saw housed students from DePaul, Columbia College (which I think is a photography school?), and Roosevelt students. I think more than half of the students are commuters.

We did scratch it off the list, but it’s the one school we crossed off teh list that keeps coming back into the conversation!

Thank You so much PinotNoir.
