I go to Fordham rose hill and I'll be willing to answer ANY questions you might have.. I do enjoy fordham alot but I will be honest in my responses. Ask away.

what are the weekends like on campus? are there alot of people around? how big is the campus? i've only been to marist college and manhattan college so if you know those two schools, a comparison would be fine. what are the dorms like? ie, coed, singles, space, distance from other buildings.

thanx

are the dorms nice...what are the pros/cons
is the campus nice
is there a sense of community among undergrads
do undergrad graduates, if they do well of course, usually go to reputable and even top notch grad school (or not more so than other schools), in other words, how well does fordham set up its students for the next steps they are going to take?

wats da lowest gpa u can have to be accepted into Fordham

pmsoccerpink:

The dorms are fairly nice compared to other schools. I live in Alumni South and the rooms are fairly average-- I live in a triple and I must admit that my room is huge. Most rooms are converted triples and those people aren't as lucky as I am. The dorms are, for the most part, well-maintained. I live on a floor with all guys so we do mess it up, but that's our fault not Fordham's. Alumni North and South are relatively the same but if you decide to come to Fordham, do yourself a favor and pick South (haha, as you can see there is a slight rivalry b/w north and south). Hughes Hall, another freshman dorm, is nice from what I hear; the rooms are all quads but they are very spacious and nice ( I wouldn't live there though-- 4 people is too much for me). Queens Court is yet another freshman dorm and you have to write an essay to get into it; very close-knit community feel in Queens and the rooms are fairly nice. Tierney Hall is a dorm that houses both freshman and upperclassman-- it looks nice from what I can see, although I haven't heard too much about it. The big negative that I can think of are the rules; rules are very strict around here about drinking, opp. sex in your room etc., however, there are always ways around it. After you discover those loopholes, you'll come to realize that it really isn't that bad.
The campus is very nice-- I'd say one of the best-looking campuses in the country. Many gothic-style buildings and long expanses of green grass. A few movie studios have shot movies here (the exorcist, a beautiful mind, love story, kinsey etc) and one of the priests here played a part in the original exorcist movie. Apparently a few priests who have performed exorcisms reside here on campus and apparently fordham is one of the most haunted campuses in the nation (it depends on what you believe, of course haha). I'd say the main attraction on campus is the library; it has been rated 5th in the country out of all the colleges/universities in the nation. I'm not a very studious type but yet I still find myself there on occasion.
I'd say there is a fairly strong sense of community- especially among the residents. I'd say most of the commuters seem to go to class and then leave, although Fordham is working to integrate the commuters in more smoothly with the rest of the community. Is it the one of the most community-oriented schools in america? No, but it's nowhere near being like NYU.
I've heard of many undergrads going to Columbia, Harvard, Yale etc and I strongly believe that Fordham's curriculum will prepare you for anything that comes your way. Fordham's core curric. is very, very broad (and sometimes tedious) although I've heard it's invaluable once grad. school rolls around. My RA, for instance, is going to Columbia next year. I don't think that TONS of undergrads go to ivies for grad, but there's definitely an impressive amount and it's only sure to rise as Fordham's rep. continues to rise. If you have any other questions, ask anytime although it's finals week so I might not get back to you in a few days haha.

freekobe07, there isn't a cutoff for GPA but most students who get in have an A- average and higher (3.7 gpa and higher). All of my friends here seemed to have at least an 89 or 90 average out of 100. It really depends on what Fordham wants, however. I know a girl last year who hardly had enough credits to graduate due to cutting (her weighted gpa was very, very low) but she still got in-- she was a URM and had a 1480/1600 sat score. I have heard of under-representated minorities getting rejected with 1300's and 3.6's. The moral of the story? You need very strong grades, but if you don't, make sure to stand out extremely well in other areas.

Haunted!!!!!????????!!!!

yes.. the duane library is apparently one of the most haunted buildings on campus.

You said the rules are strict... what is the social scene like on campus and what does your average weekend consist of?

The social scene on campus is active-- Fordham has a fair amount of activities planned. Partying in the dorms does happen although they are all kept under wraps-- as I said before, the rules are enforced since it's a Jesuit Catholic school. As long as you are relatively quiet about your party life, you'll be fine; people seemed to have alot of fun in the dorm. At the end of the year, theres a huge concert on the lawn (this year we had the roots and third eye blind) as well as a huge dance for all students.

The party scene off campus is positively amazing. This is where most of the partying occurs. There are numerous bars in the Bronx that often don't card at all. The bars have a very hectic atmosphere but are very fun. Manhattan is only twenty minutes away-- an endless source of opportunities. Most of the bars DO card in manhattan but then again, there are endless ways to get a fake ID in manhattan as well haha. The bars in manhattan are nicer, of course, but the Bronx bars are very convienient.

If you have any other questions feel free to ask.

Do the students at Rose Hill and Lincoln Center have a combined graduation or are they separate? Also, where is/are the graduation(s) held?

Graduation is made up of two parts: Commencement and then Diploma Ceremonies. Commencement is where the keynote speaker talks and the Honorary Degrees are confered and where the President speaks. This is all on Eddies Parade at RH. Then the schools break off and go to seperate locations at RH for the Diploma Ceremonies where the Deans of the Colleges speak and when the students actually have their names called and get their degrees.

this whole haunted campus thing is very interesting. hahaha. does anyone have any more info about this?

What is the best meal plan to get at Rose Hill for a freshman?

Intotherain: It all depends on what you believe but there are a few myths surrounding Fordham. Apparently in Duane Library, an old Latin professor haunts the top floor and has been known to help students out with their work (haha, yes, i actually heard that). Also, I believe that a few exorcisms have been performed in the attic of Hughes Hall (freshmen dorm) and one of the scenes from the exorcist was filmed in the attic. The basement of Finlay Hall (sophomore, junior dorms) used to be a morgue so many myths have arisen based on that since it now has dorms in it. Apparently, there have been ghost sitings in the shower and in people's rooms in this basement. Fordham has been named as one of the most haunted campuses in the nation and I heard very vaguely from someone that a few ghost hunts have occured for those who are interested. Edgar Allen Poe also grew up in Fordham and mentions the university (vaguely) in one of his poems.

FordhamU2010: I had the 10 cafeteria meals/wk with the 300 flex dollars (could've been 400.. i cant remember which one). I thought it was very good since the cafeteria is pretty bad and you'll be wishing for alot of flex dollars for the deli or millenium cafe. Even though 10 meals/wk at the caf. doesn't sound like a whole lot, I think you'll find that it's the perfect amt.

Do you know which medical schools have accepted Fordham pre-meds? Thanks.

I'm looking at Fordham's religion program for grad school.

I don't believe they offer any grad student housing, so off campus how is the area? And what is the average cost for a studio in Brooklyn anyways?

What kind of chances does a student who hasn't taken any AP classes and very few honors classes in HS have?

How did you choose between RH and LC? Also, if I have a kind of low-average GPA but strong EC's and reccs, what are my chances?

They report an average GPA of 3.7. I have no idea why they have GPA listed as Not Available above.

My guess is that kids who want to live on a traditional campus choose RH, those who want to be in Manhattan choose LC. It must have something to do with where classes are offered too!

Hope that helps.
