Rose Hill student willing to take questions

I think LC campus is more commuter as well, my D is applying and likes the idea of the Manhattan campus, but wants an environment with more resident students

she sent in her application yesterday....

Is it hard to transfer for the spring semester? what's the minimum GPA? is it really competitive?

Now that I'm a sophmore, I'm a little more knowledgeable than last year...

rydz--You're prob. gunna get the answer you expected-- no, it's not incredibly hard, but it's fairly competitive. The overall transfer acceptance rate is currently around 49%. On the Fordham website, they say in order to be a competitve applicant you should have at least a 3.0 gpa.. I'd say the average is around 3.3-3.5. If you fall in this midrange, I'd say you have a strong chance.

verbalizing-- I chose RH because I've grown up in the general area all my life and I love the campus feel. As much as I like manhattan, I just felt like I wanted the college experience-- although it really depends on the person. Plus, when I tell someone that I go to Fordham they say "oh really? it has such a nice campus up there in the bronx....." ... in other words, most people equate fordham with the beautiful bronx campus as opposed to lincoln center. Your GPA is the most important part of your application, so definitely work on it-- since you don't specify how low it is ("low" on this site usually means an A average instead of an A+ average), you should be aiming to apply with a strong B to B+ overall avg.

Momne- A student with few honors and AP classes shouldn't have a huge problem getting in as long as their overall GPA is at the very least a B+/A- . Someone with many AP's is fine with at least a B. Keep in mind that it's getting competitive, however, and it can only help to squeeze in an AP class somewhere (even senior yr.. colleges love seeing heavy senior courseloads).

My D is planning on going to visit Fordham weekend of Nov 10-12...where do you recommend she stay? She hasn't visited the campus-Rose Hill- but is applying and there are some events that weekend for prospective students

Have contacted to school and they recommended some hotels, but we have no clue which is best.

She is a senior coming in from California....and will be traveling alone most likely

i want to go to Fordham university and major in english.
How is the english program there and what gpa is acceptable to get in to FU?
Hows the dorms and can you send me a link to a pic maybe?
How are the people? Is it a good place to be and memoriable?

hey I’m a senior in high school and Im looking into Fordham.
I plan on commuting so I was just wondering whats the life like for commuters. Would I miss out on stuff like Is it hard to meet people? Is it harder to party? what is the typical weekend like? And are you like allowed to sleep over at like a freind’s dorm?

…

Hi! Your’e exactly what I have been looking for on this forum. Ok so I an currently a student at Wayne State University in Detroit, Mi. I basically want to know exactly what gpa or anything else I will need in order to REALISTICALLY be accepted to fordham. I know the minimum is 2.7 but I just wanted to know what I would actually need. Thanks ALOT

Would it be too late to apply for Fall’10 in May when I get my grades for spring’09 in??

Shawnawan: Yes of course May is too late, aren’t all freshman/transfer deadlines January 1st 2010? Check the website, you can apply and send your grades after.
I just got in as a freshman EA with a 3.7 and a 2070 SAT. I know people that got in with 20% lower gpas and scores. but freshman might be different.

otherwise to answer some general questions: while i am not a student at fordham (yet!) i have a good friend who just graduated and i talked to about the school. She said that it’s a pretty big bar school especially once you’re 21 and since the city is readily available people usually break off into groups. parties are usually small and either on or off campus but there will be one to go to if you ask for it, otherwise, it’s easy to stay away from. People are friendly and nice and religion isn’t shoved in your face, but you can’t have an opposite-sex sleepover- they have to leave at 3 am. sucks.

any actual freshman to answer our questions?

I heard that fordham offers non-need based aid to internationals, is this true? I can’t find the details on the website. And are such merit scholarships available to transfer students?
