Rose Hulman and Harvey Mudd tied in USnews

I also want to get it back onto topic. I never thought anyone thought anything bad of Mudd. I just don’t agree with some of the logic of some posts up to this point.

I don’t see it as hijacking the thread. If I see something that I think is incorrect (SAT scores, location, size, etc) then I’m going to say I disagree. Posters were still talking about all of those issues. I got over it and tried to put the thread back on track (hence asking what Rose’s core was like).

Did I say I was suffering? I enjoy taking the hum classes a lot and I’m out of the core, so none of that really affects me.

Anyway, my next attempt to get the thread back on track:

I think Mudd has a stronger focus on both humanities and core curriculum than Rose. Not to say that Rose doesn’t have a pretty extensive core and humanity requirement (the freshmen writing courses sound intense). But, Rose students go into greater depth in their respective fields than Mudd students. This probably means that the average student is taking more engineering classes at Rose than we take at Mudd? (but I don’t know for sure, other opinions?)

I’m not sure I entirely agree with the point about Rose being a lot more job-oriented than Mudd. I’ve never gotten the impression so far that our engineering is graduate school oriented. Also, would engineering faculty at other schools (the people filling out the reviews for US news) rate an engineering department differently because it was more grad school oriented?

Anyway, aren’t there better ways to compare the two departments besides looking at a questionable US news ranking? I suppose it might be hard to compare the two schools because Rose and Mudd are both odd and not included in many studies, rankings, etc.
