Any recommendations for freshman dorms? Would like to have a large double....Any other pertinent suggestions about rooming?

There aren't really that many choices for freshman, basically come down to: AC/no-AC and big (demming) or small (Scharpenberd/Mees/etc)

I'm pretty sure in terms of footage they are probably all roughly the same; there are links on the website to floorplans that give measurements of the rooms.

I was in Scharpenberg and I would definitely say it set me off straight. I guess that has to do with the students, my RA, my SA (my floor was waaay different then the floor above), so whatever fits the style (big/small-ac/not) is really the best you can do, the rest is luck.

I put down Mees and then BSB for my dorm choices... don't know that it'll really matter a whole lot though. I think it'll mostly be what you make of it!

BSB normally fills up the fastest because it is air conditioned, co-ed, and the closest to the academic buildings. Deming is all male, not air conditioned, but also very close to both the union and academic buildings. I live in Speed which is about the same size as Deming and BSB (100-120 students). Speed is all male and not air conditioned, but has the advantage of being near the parking lot and basketball courts and has a nice lake view. The triplets (Mees, Scharpenburg, and Blumburg) are much smaller and close to the union but further from the other buildings. The rooms in all the halls are all very close to the same size, except for Deming which has some three person rooms. That said, the hall or floor you're on doesn't matter as much as the people around you. The Resident Assistants and Sophomore Advisers give the floor its personality, and wherever you end up you will find people you can get along with. If you ask students here where you should live freshman year, almost everyone will recommend their freshman hall.

Woulkd you tell me how is the co-ed dorms like?

eh, girls and guys are on seperate floors so it doesn't make a whole lot of difference.

my experience is limited to an all male freshman dorm for 2 years (1st as a freshman, then as a sophomore adviser), so I can't attest to the social environment it creates, but it's negligible.

My D lived in BSB her freshman year. No problems at all with the co-ed dorms. But I heard the boys really like Demming, Speed and BSB
