Interesting enough, I was down at Parents week-end yesterday. I meant 2 Rose students who were accepted also at MIT. I remembered your question and asked them why they decided to go to Rose vs MIT. Both students separately said it was all about the small college feel and the support.

They just felt it was a much better fit. Both were Soph and I asked them if they regretted their decision. They said they made the “RIGHT” decision. They also said they both plan graduate degrees and the academics at Rose were very good.

I haven’t been here in days. I want to make clear that I didn’t mean to suggest at all that Rose-Hulman itself is racist in any way. I did mean to suggest that it seems to have a great deal of trouble attracting nonwhite students (Asian and URM), and as a result its engineering community is very different from the kind of community you would find almost anywhere else, certainly any major employer of engineers. Also, that Rose-Hulman’s friendliness might look very different to white and nonwhite students.

Personally, I’m having a difficult time believing that this thread is for real. First, there are so many grammatical and English-usage errors in the OP’s posts that it’s hard to believe he/she could have been admitted to MIT in the first place. Here’s a sample of the OP’s excerpts from this thread:

April 29:
I was talking about the academic environment in which the Rose student are evolving. As a fact I dont care as much about the aesthetic side. I am talking about academy.

April 30:
Wow, is that choice soo clear-cut to make? Is Rose-Hulman that bad before MIT in term of bachelor?

I mean lets be a little bit impartial and speak not as partisan or adorator of MIT but as students who look beyond all that prestige stuff.

May 4:
to ham;
Maybe you should ask it to yourself

I suspect that the OP’s intention is simply to provide some publicity for Rose-Hulman.

First of all, I would like to say that CC is not my favorite place when it comes to demonstrating my eloquence. I might not be as perfect as you grammatically speaking, which is absolutely normal since I am international, but I truly find unwise to make assumptions about the credibility of this thread. I feel like you are sooo biased with MIT`s perfection compared to other schools that when I talk about Rose-Hulman , it is like comparing what is not comparable at all.
Now if you are able to determine whether or not someone has been admitted to MIT based on what he or she is writing on CC, then congrats. I mean you are free to believe whatever you want because at the end, I am the one who is going to either MIT or Rose. And by the way, I`m coming to Massachusetts.

This was figurative!
I am going to attend MIT in lieu of Rose-Hulman this fall 2009. I already have submitted my reply form since may 1st, I just wanted to make sure I made the right decision. Again I am not interested in research, I like personal attention…all of these parameters made me really think twice before undertaking any action.So it was natural and perfectly normal to still hesitate and after all, some students did chose Rose over MIT as Cheezwhiz said.So come on! it`s not a big deal! On the other hand, I hope I am going to find more friendly faces once I am there!.:)
