Rose-Hulman`s Future.

I am a prospect student at 95 % sure. Now I
ve been through Rose
s website several times. The last time I went, I found out the article about Rose`s perspectives in the future. Among them, we can read this strong will to make the school to be on of the most complete engineering school in the country. What do you think about the feasibility of this project.

My recond request is about your thoughts on Rose`s website. Personally, I think they have to make an effort to rebuild and make it look better. Indeed, a website can play an important role regarding the communication of a school. I myself found it a little bit dry. I wish they could improve it.

The website was one of the reasons my son decided not to attend Rose. I did see a survey a couple of months ago on the admissions section of the website, so I think there will be a redesign of at least that part in the future. There is a lot of information available overall, but it’s a pretty boring format.

As for Rose’s future plans, a lot will depend on who they select as the new president. I think RH offers a very strong engineering program; they really need to increase their national visibility.

^^ I couldn
t agree more about your opinion. The same effect was applicable to me about the website. Fortunately (hopefully) I
ve overcome this bothersome side of Rose. Communication is important when it comes to recruiting student. In addition, for a school that is seriously planning on drastically increase their diversity, I think a lot remain to do. I am myself international but frankly, I did not even know that there was an excellent engineering school called Rose-Hulman. That must change.

Although I think this lack of visibility might be given to the fact that there are no researches, implying no Phd programs, which make the media stay a little bit away.

About the survey on the website, I was aware of that and as you stated, a possible change is coming. And which college is your son attending now.

I know the Website is going to change big time…I made a couple of suggestions also. As far as changes in the President, I think the board will find a good fit.

The day to day operations will continue without a President and will have little effect right now. It is a really good school with or without a good website. I agree that it should be changed but its all in where you want to spend your money.

The website was supposed to change at the beginning of this year as part of a new branding and marketing initiative, but that has been put on hold because the school doesn’t want to start a big project with the current economic situation. Also, when the first part of the initiative, the new logo, was released, many students protested and the school is considering what to do. I have seen the homepage flash concept for the new site, and personally I like the current site better. The new site replaces all the information on the homepage with flashy high tech looking pictures. The one feature that I don’t want to see them get rid of is the quick links menu at the bottom of the page. As a current student, almost anything I need on the site I can get to from the quick links, but they’ve gotten rid of it on the proposed new design. As Rose does with any major decision, they are trying to get input from all of the groups involved and finding a solution that satisfies everyone is extremely difficult, and I think it will be a while before they finalize the new design.

As far as the future of Rose in general, Rose has found something that works and Dr. J has set the plan for the future to keep doing what we’re doing now. Our visibility is increasing every year, with the number of living alumni growing and a record number of applicants this year. Rose has grown a lot in recent years and the visibility and reputation take a few years to catch up.

^^Yeah that is acceptable, but keep in mind that Rose is losing a plethora of student who just for reason that they are not that much in knowledge of the school. It is sad. Everybody, that didn`t chose Rose, did because of a prejudice that might be either location or visibility.
