Rose-Hulman vs MSOE | Software Engineering 2018

I’ve narrowed down my schools to Rose-Hulman and MSOE (Milwaukee School of Engineering). However, I can’t make a decision, and would appreciate feedback or advice. I’ve jotted some of my thoughts below, feel free to correct me or add to the list. Likewise, give light to anything specific. If you’d like to share your experiences about campus life, food, classes, etc. Feel free to share whatever.

My thoughts:

ROSE-HULMAN

POSITIVES:

  • From what I’ve heard has a great career service center that helps students land internships and jobs nationwide. Likewise, they care a lot about the students needs.
  • Their need student union has pretty good food, newly renovated.
  • A.C. in the dorms/pretty clean bathrooms.
  • Have entrepreneurial organizations (such as ESCALATE) for those who are business minded in engineering.
  • Very supportive community of students and teachers.

NEGATIVES:

  • Location is not the best, not much to do in Terre Haute

MSOE

POSITIVES:

  • Good Software Engineering program (From what I’ve heard, Rose-Hulman bases their program off of MSOE).
  • Urban Location, more options of things to do off campus
  • Brand New Computer Science Building coming in 2019 potentially putting MSOE at the forefront of AI. Building will house a supercomputer.

NEGATIVES:

  • Dorms aren’t the nicest, except for Grohmann Tower which is exclusively for honor program students, juniors, and seniors.
  • Some of their buildings seem a little dated. For example, the Campus Center and Library. However, the classrooms didn’t seem too bad.
  • Food options - after visiting for student accepted day, I didn’t hear the best things about their food options and quality.
  • From what I’ve seen, it doesn’t seem like the school has as an elaborate entrepreneurial club/organization in comparison to Rose-Hulman.
