Ross 2017

Hey everyone!

I heard about the Ross program from a few friends of mine who’d attended. Is anyone else applying? All of my friends told me that Ross isn’t incredibly hard to get in to and that I should apply because there is a very good chance that I could get in. Does anyone else have any info about the program? Any alumni? Any possible applicants?

I really hope I get in-- my friends also mentioned how fun it was and how much freedom you got!

bump? Anyone applying?

My son ended up at PROMYS, but applied to Ross too and had friends attend both. If you like to spend time doing math problems it is a great program.

Do you know whether the program questions are more similar to competition math or rigorous proofs? How similar is PROMYS to Ross?

PROMYS was started by a Ross alum - very similar programs. Not competition math - both are number theory based. At PROMYS you have a class in the morning, then problem sets. An evening lecture (sometimes optional, a few are mandatory). But lots of time to work on problems - alone and with others. Various activities thrown in too - talent show, ultimate game against RSI.

Oh cool! Would you recommend me do PROMYS or Ross? I want to only focus on one because I feel if I put all my effort into one application problem set, I have a better chance of getting in

Look at the dates of the program to see if that makes a difference. Ross starts/ends earlier than PROMYS.

Attending SUMaC, HCSSiM previous years will lower your chances to get into ROSS? I ask because they are similar programs. Does Ross want to give chance to kids who have no/little experience with extended math camps?
