Ross decisions

Over the past few days I was accepted into the Cornell and Northwestern engineering schools. The wild card in my whole final decision is Ross admissions. Does anybody have a clue as to when I will hear back from Ross? I need to find out within the next week or two so I can make a decision.

When I called to complain about not receiving a decision yet, they told me Ross will be sent out before April 15th

jhum...how you been? Where did you get in so far and did you get into UMich yet?

engineering and business? why did you apply to different schools?

I don't have a ton of direction yet, and I didn't really want to do engineering at Michigan.

ugh.. if they send it out around april 15th.. it will take two weeks for it to arrive for me.. seeing that im international.. that's just lame...

I don't get it DSMO, you are willing to go to Cornell and Northwestern for Engineering but not Michigan? Those two universities have very similar Engineering cultures to Michigan. Anyway, I hope Ross nulifies any doubt you may have. I would hate for Michigan to lose you.

I kind of get the feeling that if I went to Michigan for engineering, I'd almost certainly end up in the domestic automotive industry. Seeing the troubles that the Big Three run into every few years, it's something that just doesn't really appeal to me. Yes, I realize that I will probably have other options, but if I stay in Michigan, I'll probably end up with a girl from Michigan. That's probably going to restrict where I could move to work, leaving me with the uncertainty of the Big Three and their suppliers.

DSMO, 3 of the 4 largest employers at the CoE last year were Being, Northrup Grumman and Lockheed Martin each hired at least as many Michigan Engineers as Ford (the 4th of the 4 main recruiters on Michigan's Engineering campus) and Ford is the largest recruiter of the Big 3 on Michigan's campus. In fact, UBS (Investmenr Bank), Microsoft and Intel each hired more Michigan Engineers than either GM or Daimler Chrylser.

In terms of industry, the number of Michigan students joining the Automotive sector was no larger than those joining either aerospace, consulting or Investment Banking. At any rate, you should go with your gut on this.

I believe you, but I still get the feeling if I graduated from Michigan engineering I would end up wanting to work for the Big Three. I'd definitely be tempted by the company car programs and whatever other crap they have traditionally offered to employees. My mom has a great job at DaimlerChrysler, gets sweet deals on cars with insurance paid by Chrysler every few months. But there's still uncertainty there. One model year of low-quality or untempting models can put the company right back on the road to job cuts and closures. Something I don't really want to be tempted into.
