Ross Pre-Admit Questions

hey guys, I am currently a junior looking at UMich for next year. I really loved the school on my visit and I want to study business at Ross. The only problem is that I only have an ACT 31 and a 3.8 GPA unweighted. I just don't think those numbers are strong enough for pre-admit, so I was wondering what the process is like trying to study business without the pre-admit acceptance. For example, what college and major should I apply into? Thanks a lot for the help

The traditional path to the Business school is the college of LSA. There was no pre-admit until 2007. Before then, the only way to get into the Business school was to complete two years and apply to the Business program at the end of Sophomore year.

The odds of getting into Ross preadmit are not good. It is easier to get in once you are at Michigan, at the end of Freshman year. Like all Freshmen, you will be assigned a faculty advisor during orientation. It is best to seek out your advisor’s input into the best way to get into Ross. It usually includes several classes to be taken during the first and second trimesters, such as Calculus, English etc… Maintaining a 3.6+ GPA is optimal. Participating in some sort of EC is also expected. At the end of Freshman year, you apply to Ross. The application is straightforward with one essay asking you to articulate why you feel Business is a good major for you.

Apply to whatever interests you, though if you’re interested in going to Ross, probably LSA, major in economics, take some difficult courses, do well in them, then apply to Ross after your freshman year. You can really major in anything, just show interest in business by being involved in a few clubs. Mainly just be interested in a few things, stay with them, and do exceptionally well in your school work and you’ll get in.

ok, so in high school I have taken AP Chem, AP Bio and AP Physics and have done pretty well in these classes, so would applying into a science major be best? because I have seen alot of the information previously so I would get the best GPA. the only fear I have about econ major is that I have not seen the curriculum yet and I am not sure if I would get as high of a GPA.

You don’t apply into a science major… LS&A includes all the sciences, so you just apply for LS&A. And even if they ask for a proposed major, you can just switch when you get there if you want to (so you could put down Econ, but no one will notice if you end up as a Chem major later on if you don’t get into Ross once you are there!). I will say, though, that an Econ major is NOT required to get into Ross. A strong GPA, and Calc and a couple of Econ classes freshman year should do it. You need to clarify this with your advisor, of course.
