Ross Preadmit affecting Honors Invite?

I got my LSA accepted decision the other day, and I was a little saddened that I didn't get an invitation to the Honors Program (that should have come with the packet, right?). My stats are rather good: 4.0, 2300 SAT, lots of leadership, ECs and whatnot.

Not to be conceited, but is there a specific reason why I didn't get an invitation? I applied to the Ross Pre-admit too, if that might influence the decision.

You don’t get an honors invite until much later.

no the honors invite comes with the packet
atleast i got mine with the packet
hmm
i applied pre-admit ross and still got it so i dont think it influences anything
but then again your stats are better than mine
call the undergraduate office and check with them

i applied preadmit to Ross as well and received an email about honors about a week later i think.

I got an email about honors too, but thats not really an invite.

ihatesats2: Really? What did the invite look like that came with the packet? And by packet do you mean the stuff that was mailed to you? I definitely thought that honors invites weren’t until much much later.

Does the Honors invite come by a separate letter or a separate email, or does it come with the packet…? Can anyone confirm ?

nvm i was wrong
i just got the honors application basically the email in letter form with my packet
sorry guys…

i just called the Admissions Department. They indicated that a student will receive a separate invitation to apply to the Honors Program…about 2-3 weeks after they receive their initial offer of admission. IF a student does not receive an invite, they are allowed to write an essay and submit for consideration. So, just sit tight and an invitation should come soon…

Most people that don’t get into Ross Pre-admit and are admitted after frosh year are in the honors program. So it wouldn’t be affecting your invite at all. Either they are sending it after the honors program reviews your material… or you are just not being invited to the program, like Mi Mom said: just send an essay in and see what happens. it’s not the end of the world if you don’t get into honors. after you graduate no one will care whether you were honors or not… all they care about is if you know your ***** and apply it in the workforce.

Thanks, this all makes me feel much better. :)

Are you sure? All the people I know (3xLSA and 3xEngr) who got in last year after frosh year were not in the honors program. What % of the Ross sophomre class are from LSA Honors?

Most… not all - it helps with getting into ross assuming you keep your GPA up - just the rigor of the classes - i mean being in HP means you do well in classes and don’t slack and did well in HS - I thought of going into HP as a transfer but it just isnt worth the time.

Uh… two classes make that much of a difference?

I just got my email to APPLY to Honors.
I thought if you are invited there is no need for an essay? Seems to sort of defeat the purpose of the invitation, if everyone is allowed to apply to Honors by submitting an essay…

The email you received was not an “invitation”. It invited you to APPLY for honors, but you were not invited into the program. Sometime next year (or maybe even later this year) they will invite some people to honors without the need for an essay. Otherwise, you will have to write an essay to be considered.

ok honors INVITE comes by email.
make sure you write the essay if you want to be admitted… don’t be lazy like i was
honors ACCEPTANCE comes by regular mail… its a just in a regular envelope from the honors department… not umich admissions.

I am confused. I got the email to apply, but it seems from you guys that everyone did.

So, are there 2 separate things:

 1. an email inviting you to “apply”, but then other people get
 2. a email saying you are “invited”, i.e. automatically in and don’t have to apply?

Can someone clear this up?

I have a question for anyone applying to Ross pre-admit.

I’m hoping to get into the Ross Pre-admit program, bc i plan on majoring in finance. However, when i fill out the application and put down LSA, do I just put down any major? Because the application has that short answer “why’d you pick your major”. So if my intended major is really finance, but that’s not a definitly since i’m not in Ross yet, should i just write the essay on whatever major i put down from LSA? how’d you guys do it? Thanks!
