If I apply as a Ross Preferred Admit, and get do not make it, can I still get accepted into the university, in LS&A, and will that hurt my chances of being accepted to Ross sophomore year?

Directly from the website. Paragraph 2 answers your question:

Preferred Admissions BBA Program

The Preferred Admissions program is a small, highly selective program that allows students to apply to the BBA program at the Ross School of Business during their senior year of high school. Students who are accepted by the Ross School of Business out of high school are not directly admitted into the Ross School of Business. They become what is called a “preferred admit.” This means the student is an LS&A student but is given a set of requirements to meet during his or her freshman year. When these requirements are successfully met, the student will automatically become a Ross School of Business student at the end of the freshman year when he or she notifies the Ross School of his or her continued interest.

If a student does not apply or is not accepted into the preferred admissions program, this does not hurt his or her chances of being accepted into the 3-year program. If a student is not admitted into the Ross School of Business for the Preferred Admissions program, he or she is encouraged to apply again at the end of his or her freshman year for admission into the 3-year program.

So I assume that I would first get accepted into the university, and then the Ross Preferred Admissions Program, and if I get rejected from that, I just remain in LSA until I apply during freshmen year? So is there any downside to applying Ross Preferred Admit?

Yes. And no there's no downside at all.

It's pretty much like this: You apply to Ross during senior year.

If you get in, you just take the prerequisites during your first year, and you're guaranteed to be in Ross the following year. You don't have to apply again.

If you don't get in as a pre-admit but still get into the LSA, you can take the prerequisites and apply by March 31st of your freshman year. The application consists of the app itself, a resume, 3 essays, and an extracurricular activities/awards and honors list.

If you don't get into the U of M at all, you can go to another school and after one year transfer to Ross. It's hard but possible.

And yes, if you do get in, you'll get into the LSA first. That will be your first acceptance letter. The pre-admit notification comes a while later, according to the pre-admits here.

I was admitted to LSA before Christmas, but didn't receive my Ross pre-admit acceptance until late March. Although I can't say for sure exactly, but the posts seem to indicate I was accepted in the middle group time-wise. However, as far as I know, there is always a lag between LSA acceptance and Ross pre-admit acceptance.
