In addition, i've built up a small "company" over the past 3 years; registering with SBA and local authorities this fall/winter to make it official[ before mich app goes in]. With full licenses, status, and such. This really has been one of my biggest focuses over high school career, it's good to finally see it come to fruition.

I probably won't get a very large AA boost since i'm out of state. I'm fairly confident that as long as I write good essays, and get good recs, I can get into LSA. But what about ross premie? tell me what you think.

Don't know if you know or not, but SAT II tests have no effect on your admissions. You can still submit them, but they don't help you.

You can't send only your SAT II scores, and even if so, your estimated scores aren't very good anyways.

You'll get into Michigan no problem, provided MCRI doesn't affect this years admissions process. Ross is a tossup. Your stats aren't great. AA will help, but there are probably many better qualified URM applicants.

There is a Ross Pre-Admit Facebook group with over half of the class of 2010 photos. I only noticed one or two URMs, based on my guess of photos. So, I'm not sure how much URM will help. I did note a common theme among accepted applicants - they seemed to have some demonstrated interested in business (more than just FBLA, etc.) and some fairly good stats. You definitely have the business interested covered (certainly more than I did).

Your standardized test scores seem to be on the low side. However, you still have the fall to improve those scores.

The CollegeBoard stopped allowing "score choice" a few years ago. IOW when you submit any of their test scores, every test you have taken up until that date goes out. There are only a few ways to not let Michigan see your SAT I scores: (a) if you sent out a score report to UM after your SAT II's but before you took the SAT I, or (b) if you called the CollegeBoard within their period after the SAT I and invalidated the test (in which case I would assume you wouldn't know your score result (?) - I don't know the details about nullifying results but there is a way ).

If UM doesn't require SAT II, then you can actually take the SAT I a few more times in the fall and if your score improves, you can decide whether to submit them. FYI I heard UM uses the scores from a single sitting (no mixing M from one date w/ CR from another date).

As I understand it, your statement of purpose (or whatever they're calling the letter Ross asks for) carries some weight.

Definitely. That's where you're going to want to explain your previous business experience. That will definitely outweigh some (relatively) low test scores

thanks guys. I appreciate the comments. I do plan to take the ACT in september, so far in my practice tests, I've been achieving 31-32's. I'm sure I can pull off at least 35 on the real test. I' not dumb, I just ABHORE the SAT test format. Students should be rewarded on the basis of what they know, not how well they can deduce.

You won't need a 35 ACT to get in. With your business background (assuming you put it in writing in a desirable form), you have a pretty good shot at getting in based on your practice ACT scores. Those scores are higher than your equivalent SAT scores. If you end up in the 31 or 32 range, I would not send any SAT scores to Michigan.

If you are better at the ACT than the SAT and you want to go to Michigan (which still receives more ACTs than SATs), you should forget about the SAT and focus on the ACT. (That's just my two cents. You should get confirmation of this strategy from others.)

What exactly is your "small company?"

I'm wondering partly out of curiosity, but also, if it is unique that should definetly help. Depending on what you've done with it, if you can get a 35, I assume you'd be a pretty good bet. I know someone who had pretty similiar stats to you now (slighlty higher SAT scores), they weren't an URM like you, and they had a small business on the side and htey got into Ross pre-admit.

haha how do you figure you can get at least a 35 if you are getting 31s and 32s on your practice tests?

I have 2 months to study.
