I took a year off and have recently started a new semester in U of M. I'm taking 12 credits this semester to ease myself back into school. When I apply to the B School next semester, will the amount of credits I have for the fall semester affect me negatively? (I'm also working part time for a CPA firm and looking into some EC's).

I think you need 30 between fall and winter..so if you take 18 during winter, you'd be okay..otherwise I'd recommend you take one more class...

Nah you only need 27 credits. Looks like this guy isn't a freshman though. Hope he realizes he would have to start Ross as a soph (translation: an extra year).

To answer the original question though, when most of the other people applying are taking 15-18 credits, it has to affect you negatively. However, I don't think it would be a huge deal considering your circumstances.

My D is a freshman but she is starting Mich with 30 credits b/c of AP classes taken in HS. She is considering dropping a class, which would give her 12 credits this semester. Should she replace the class instead? She killed herself the last two years of HS and would like a transition to college life, especially since she is accross the country from home.

If she is applying to Ross I think the best option would be to add a two or three-credit course she is interested in that doesn't involve a very heavy workload. If not, 12 is fine.
