So I'm sure if there are any current UM students on this site, there are at least some who plan to apply to the B-School. I am a freshman and would like to ask a few questions. Anyone who responds, I greatly appreciate it, and others who have questions about Ross should feel free to post here too.

First of all, does anyone have any unique tips for the application? I've obviously heard the usual "quality over quantity" for essays and that I should try to be myself and not write what they may want to hear, but is there anything else anyone recommends? I don't really expect anyone to have any special tips, but I figured I would at least ask!

Secondly, I must ask... what would anyone with any knowledge about Ross say my chances are of being admitted (regular decision)?

Freshman
First semester GPA: 3.87
- Econ 101: A
- Pre-Calculus: A- (I stupidly did not take Calculus as a HS senior; adviser recommended Pre-Calc and thank God she did)
- German 231: A
- Philosophy: A-

Second Semester GPA: Unknown
- Calculus: Got an A- on first exam, hopefully I can stay in that range
- German 232: Will probably be an A-
- English 124 (FYWR): Will be an A or A- I think
- Psych 211

Extra curricular wise, I have a job as an account manager where I work ~8-10 hours a week. I am a member of the Sport Business Association. I was a three sport high school athlete and captained two of those teams. I also worked about 36 hours/week over the summer after my junior and senior year of HS. Oh, and I am a member and regular volunteer/fundraiser at an Ann Arbor church.

I consider myself a strong writer, and I have a pretty natural writing voice and all, but I don't know how great my essays will be because I'm not sure what route I will take with them. A little nervous about that.

And last thing that I wanted to mention... there is an optional 250 word essay to mention any extenuating circumstances which may have hindered one's ability to succeed academically or to get involved outside of the classroom. My mom was diagnosed with cancer in September of my freshman year and as an only child with a working father I drove her to the UM hospital a lot and had to go home frequently (I'm from Saline, MI so very close to Ann Arbor). This didn't really affect my grades too much, but I didn't get as involved as I would have really liked to. Do you think I should write about this situation in that optional essay, or should I just forego that option?

Once again, thanks for any responses! Good luck to any prospective Ross applicants and GO BLUE!
